Door card removal

Featured Replies

Finally decided I need to remove both read door cards and seal the door carrier.

Removed both top portions of door handle trim, removed to large screws.

Removed speaker trim panel near door handle, removed Torx head screw.

Pulled door card away and removed 6 or 8 push clips

So far so good.

How is the door card fastened along the top edge near the glass? I simply cannot get it out / off the door.

Any advice / help much appreciated

When i did mine, i had the same problem, all i did was to keep prizing it up and it did come off eventually, but it was quite tight. Hope this is any help.

There was a very similar post recently! As I said to the other guy, I just left mine on but rested them on the seat bolsters to hold them away. I then lay on my back and did it that way. You'd probably need to lie down to do it anyway to see what you're doing, unless you have a ramp :p

There are no other fixings along the top of the door card, it's just an interferance fit where it clips over the top of the steelwork. I used a long screwdriver (padded to protect the paint) and eased the doorcard upwards from the back edge of the door. Once it starts moving it will come off quite easily. Replacement is simply the reverse, using only hand pressure to get it back in position. I've done three or four Fabias now and they all need a bit of persuasion to get the tops of the door cards to move, but as said in previous posts it just needs a bit of perseverence. Once it's free you need to remove the bowden cable for the latch mechanism from the back of the interior handle - it simply unclips. Now the card can be removed completely and you've got full access to the carrier.

One tip. Once you've cleaned up the carrier and resealed it with mastic, don't put the doorcard back on straight away. If possible leave it overnight till the mastic is dry and then test with a hosepipe to ensure you have got 100% seal. Whenever I put cars into the dealer for this job they just rebuild the door immediately without having the time to wait for mastic to dry and test it. Obviously they need the car out of the workshop as soon as possible but I still found leaks after they had finished their "repair" (not to mention the scratched paintwork and broken trim clips that they had re-used)

Once done satisfactorily it will transform your car - the joy of not having constantly misting up windows will be a revelation (literally !)

I am the guy that confused cheese is on about. As stated, I just rested the card on the back seat, sat down on my arse and made my way in towards the door with my mastic and gun in hand.

I did the leaking door on Saturday and decided to do the other (that wasn't leaking but figured it prob will soon) yesterday. The car has been in the garage since I did them and as it's ****ing down today it will be a good test of my handy work!

Fingers crossed!!

When in doubt, yank it! :D

Hi

I found that if you put your fingers through the tweeter hole a gently prise the card off, it worked for me. be careful not to rip or split the door card.

Good advice about leaving the door cards off! I would recommend it! Mine have been off for a good 2 weeks now, and won't be going back on until the end of this week! This whole job has been a bit of a nightmare for me, I've sealed the left door twice and the right door 4 times!! Hopefully it'll be fixed now though!! Good luck with sorting it all out!!

I just stuck my head inbetween the two a used a heat gun to dry it. :giggle:

Thanks for all your advice guys. Suspect I will be looking for a couple of replacement door cards :-(

Put so much force on one card trying to force it upwards from the bottom edge of the window, my well padded large screw driver almost punched through the top edge of the door card. I still haven't got either card off.

I need something larger to spread the force, see what I can knock up at work tomorrow.

Beginning to wish I hadn't started, although it will be nice to not face so much condensation.

Door cards are expensive from the stealer, they quoted me £75 a side,

i got in contact with a guy on eBay who is also on here jonnyintergrale he quoted me £60 for a pair delivered.

check out on eBay and send him a email.

One guy on here said he used a block of wood and knocked it upwards with a hammer, or something along those lines! I would be very careful about doing that though! Sounds quite dangerous, can't remember for the life of me! Try a local dealer or garage and see if they can work some magic with it? My door cards should be going back on tomorrow! Hopefully no more condensation or puddles for me!
