I think this has been happening for a while but only noticed it as had the radio off, aircon off and no one else in the car, but I think my gearbox, or perhaps even the clutch is making a slight grinding noise.

It occurs in any gear when coasting off the throttle and most noticible at lower revs. If you press the clutch in it disappears, shift the car into neutral it disappears, or just apply any throttle and it goes.

The sound is quite quiet (at least for the moment) but sounds almost like a drone and I guess noisy bearings somewhere? The car has done 86K and has original clutch. Also I would guess the gearbox oil has never been changed.

I shall be changing the gearbox oil next service but wonder if this is anything I should worry about now? I will probably be taking it to a garage as soon as possible but using the car daily.

Check the oil sooner rather than later, but get the DMF checked out first IMHO.

Thanks, well there doesn't seem to be a leak at least from what I can notice. The car stays in a garage and no apparent leakage on the floor or over the gearbox/engine, but I guess the oil could be shot.

DMF would be replaced with a single and decent clutch if its that. With a remap and 86k I guess it failing now would not be too bad

Oh also forgot to mention other than the noise, there are no other problems, shifting seems smooth, the clutch feels the same and there is no juddering.
