Can't get into car!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I hope somebody can offer some advice (please!)

The central-locking remote for my 2001 Skoda Fabia Comfort 1.4 is not working. The car will not open, instead of the usual tone I get a very short/quiet 'beep' when I press 'unlock'. I have replaced the battery, but that does not seem to be the problem. Unfortunately, the spare is elsewhere(!)

If I attempt to unlock the car using the key, I am pretty sure the alarm will go off and if the remote is not working with the car, it won't turn it off. I live in a very 'alarm-sensitive' neighbourhood, so don't want the alarm going off for too long.

My questions are:

1) If I open the car with the key, how can I switch off the alarm? Will I have to disconnect the battery (would that stop the alarm anyway?)

2) I have noticed that the drivers side rear door is not locked (?), as the button is still up, whilst the other buttons are down. Perhaps this is the problem. Would this mean that the alarm is not on?

Of course I could just try this door, but if the alarm goes off, I don't want to be in a position where I can't turn the bloomin' thing off!

Any help (whatsoever) would be HUGELY appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

John

To lock the car without the alarm activating in the first place, you can use the key in the lock, rather than the fob. However that doesn't enable the deadlocks so you could open the doors if a window is smashed.

Could always remove the alarms fuse, see if that makes a difference to anything (although deadlocks will be affected I think). From my experience, the alaram has a backup battery as the one in my Polo has gone off without the main battery connected so not sure how to stop it, always used the fob before but that's no use to you. (That caused a lot of confusion as to how to stop it bleeping!)

I would think the rear door not locking would mean the alarm wouldn't even activate personally (rather than unlocking issues), but it would be something I'd look into trying to sort first.

A simple way to tell if the alarm is still armed is the flashing LED on the drivers door pin. If it's still flashing, opening any doors (boot & bonnet too) will set the alarm off.

Sorry for the rambling nature, but hope it in some way helps!

Joe

*Edit*

If you disconnect the main battery for a few minutes it will reset all eletric systems (trip computer data will go too) which maybe enough to cure the problem. Has worked for other problems before, so worth a try seeings as it's free.

There's something in the more recent Fabia I manuals about being able to disable the alarm by switching the ignition on within 15 seconds.

However yours is quite an early one (my 2002 Comfort didn't even have an alarm, and I've a hunch that on the very first Comforts, remote locking was an option rather than standard) so it may not work!

Thanks for the replies. The LED is NOT flashing, so I may be in luck. Will give it a try tomorrow, once I've let everyone get to work!

I will try the 15-second ignition- must be worth a pop. If not, I'll disconnect the battery. Failing both of those, I'll just run and hide!

Thanks again.

Thanks again.

In that case, I would suggest (assuming the LED is working, not broken) that the rear door not locking is affecting the rest of the system and deadlocks/alarm. Think that should be the first port of call. Does the door tweater in that dooe still work? Maybe something as simple as a broken connector/ loom.
