Finally picking up my vRS on Friday from Marlborough

Featured Replies

I thought the 12 weeks would have taken long but it has flown by. Now finally picking the car up on Friday. Luckily working in London so get the train down and then come home with my new toy.

...Anyway I would appreciate any tips or advice from those who have picked up a car recently from Marlborough and also those who have bought one from elsewhere. Also if there is anything I need to be aware of? I've printed off the 'new vehicle check' PDF from the forum.

Check the panel gap on the front A frames either side of the windscreen, mine were quite large but equal on both sides.

That'll be easier said than done @ Marlborough. They are a high volume dealership so don't expect much pomp and ceremony when you pick it up. It'll be very matter of fact, rushed and a bit disorganised.

My father collected his FL Octy II L&K estate in December and he had to wait, whilst they taxed it and put reg plates on IIRC.

While not claiming in any way to be a complete list of items you should check for when taking delivery

the following may prove to be useful.

First and foremost - most of the dealers will try and rush the paper work and complete the finance at the earliest

opportunity. I AWAYS make it a golden rule to completely inspect the car before doing anything else, no matter what they may say.

Any problems are more readily sorted if you have not settled the account. I have even taken delivery without paying

the full amount, the outstanding being held over until I was satisfied. Hold on to your cash till the last, as once you have

parted with it, your powers of negotiation are severely reduced.

Hear is a list of the items I always check out that are easily overlooked :-

Special check items on delivery.

a) Stamped service book/handbook/Bolerio handbook/

B) PDI sheet. *

c) Tools/wheel nut key/wheel nut removal tool/towing hook

d) Wheel changing tools.

e) 2 Car keys and security code

f) Radio security code

E&OE

* - Sorry about the smiley but it just won't go.

Take an SD card with a load of music on if your driving up the M1

The Bolero unit is superb!!

Good luck on Friday

Collected mine from these lot a couple of weeks ago.Make sure you look under the front bumper.I didnt check til i got home and found some quite heavy scraping which looks as though it was done when the car was taken off the transporter. The road tax dates didnt add up either. No frills is an accurate phrase.Great car .As always its the dealership side of things which lets it all down.

And get them to check the alarm has'nt been going off everyday!

I'll be picking mine up this spring, so this has come at the perfect time :)

I'm also noting down the points, but one question is, where is the new vehicle check pdf?

I will be picking up my octy estate 1.4 tsi dsg elegance from them and am also slightly fidgety as this dealership has got mixed reviews on Briskoda. I will inspect the car before signing anything and settling the account. So far they have not been that bad but not that great either. I already know that I will not have the car serviced by them even though I do not live far away. Just stick to your guts and all will be fine

Don't sign the bodywork OK form until you've inspected the car, and ask to be left alone for 5 minutes whilst you do it.

Make sure all panel gaps are equal and parallel.

Do not be rushed.

When did you place your order? I placed mine on 29th Jan and was given build week 12 but that was 2 weeks ago and I've not heard a thing despite constant chasing!!!

Cheers Veedub

Mine was the 27th Jan and i'm picking it up on Saturday. I just kept emailing them for updates to push them along!

I ordered mine on the 29th Jan and have only had one phone call and no e-mails.

The phone call was to tell me that the salesman I dealt with was no longer with the company and that I hadnt been forgotten about.

They also expected to get the car the sceond week in April but I've heard nothing since.

Not impressed. :wonder:

Thanks all for all the advice.. I am currently on the train down to London. Got some work to do in the morning and plan to pick the car up around 2pm. Just need to check if Marlborough have received the complimentary insurance policy so the car can get taxed.

Gooner4_1998, I ordered mine's on 26th of Jan via DtD. If I were you I'd ring the dealer and ask them what is going on. Just tell them that other people who ordered Octavia's around the same time have received them.
