Baker & other detailers, micro fibre cloths?

Featured Replies

Bit of an odd one really, just wondering here...

I've just got together all my stuff ready for detailing my old nail, I got a bundle of micro fibre cloths for various applications.

Do you just use the cloth once then throw it in the wash? This isn't a problem for me to do this but I didn't want to use one for a certain polish, then the wash not be able to get the polish off and then next time round when I use it, it does more harm than good.

Does this make sense?! :D Thought not...

Use micro fibres for one thing only, or just wash and use on anything?!

Cheers :)

I think you may get lots of different responses to this question but anyway...

I personally have a stack of Poorboys DMT's which I use for removing polish residue after machining, quick detailing, wipedowns etc, loads of the deep pile buffing towels for removing wax/sealant & finally some of Screwfix's finest for all the other jobs like wheels, engine, tar removal, interior plastics etc.

So after all that it...the DMT's & buffing towels get washed and reused again & again, whereas the screwfix ones usually end up getting washed a couple of times then binned or binned straight after use if they get particularly dirty.

HTH

Brilliant mate thanks, will a machine wash get rid of any contaminants on the cloth?

So you don't have to worry if you have used it on the wheels one time but the black trim the next?

Cheers

Yes it should do, nice 40'c wash, worth noting they should be washed with a liquid detergent NOT washing powder & no fabric softener. Also let them dry naturally on the washing line as tumble drying them reduces their lifespan considerably (more relevant to the deep pile ones in all fairness)

I wouldn't use a cloth that's been used for wheels/engine etc on the paintwork but other than that have no problems multitasking them for any non paintwork related duties.

Enjoy the cleaning, take some pics & don't forget the suncream B)

Do you get that much of a sun tan working indoors Chris?........... :p

I pretty much have a similar set up to Chris, specific cloths for specific applications but they all get washd and re-used, when they eventually loose their softness, or ability then I just bin them.

I also degrade them over time so I will start using a brand new one on the paint, then after use, work it down to lower sills, engine bay, sills, wheels etc........

Those halogen work lights get me everytime fella ;)

I have blue for polish buffing, Yellow for glaze and red for wax buffing.

Old ones I use on the wheels and door surrounds

I never air dry as they go hard..always tumble dry
