Brake Discs

Featured Replies

I think its time to change my front discs, and was just about to order a set when I saw these;

I've had drilled discs in the past, but never grooved due to the brake dust but I think I can live with it ( just an excuse to wash the car more often :) ) They do seem rather cheap compared to stock items, but the feedback is very good. Any opinions - good or bad - are welcome.

I have used grooved discs before (not on an Octavia though). Could not really detect any benefit and they increase brake noise. What price are OE-spec replacements from ECP or GSF factors?

About 70 quid inc del from ECP for standard brake discs.

Drilled disks can crack between holes. You are far better off with grooved disks.Grooves deglaze the pads much better but as Hauptmann says, they can increase noise.

To be honest I tend to use known brands rather than nodescript ebay pattern parts. Tarox, Mintex etc. You generally get what you pay for......emoticon-0148-yes.gif

That was my only worry really, if the choice was there I would have cross drilled anyway, as I have never had a problem with them cracking, the other concern is the increased noise, is it that bad?

brembo discs

im going to fit these when i need to replace my discs, brembo are very good quality

"They are made in an ISO9001 accredited facility ISO is one of the best quality guarantees you can get."

ISO 9001 just says you document your process. You could put "Customer complains, - Answer Tell them to f**k off and die" and that would still be acceptable for 9001.

It really annoys me when I see things like that original statement.

Totally with you on this and its frustrating that people see this nonsense and think "oh they must be good then".

eBay is single handely responsible for distributing some of the nastiest crap parts available, let alone "tuning accessories" - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SEAT-LEON-ETC-BREMBO-LOOK-CALIPER-COVERS-THE-BEST_W0QQitemZ330364828180QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item4ceb473a14

Furn - good choice - genuine Brembo disks are excellent.

Pagey - to be honest I never noticed an increase in noise until after I was ragging it on track - the brake dust made things squeal a little but even then it was minimal. Don't necessarily let this put you off.

Straight Grooved discs can rumble with gentle braking at low speeds, Godspeed always put curved grooves on mine which cured that. I have no idea as to why but it worked.

They are Nasty!!!!

I had Brembo big brake conversion on my pug and standard equipment on my 406 coupe, so I agree, very good choice.

I really want cross drilled if anyone has some ideas, I've seen the Neuspeed on Awesome gti, but they are a bit pricey......

Go to GSF and you can pay less, ditto for genuine discs if you know a friendly garage.

Not for brembo though!

GSF do Brembo at good prices. I've fitted 4 sets so far with no problems . If they are good enough for Ferrari they are good enough for me !

Yes for Brembo though... I've supplied kits from there to other people.

Bump this thread.

Mine failed the Mot on pitted discs so replacements are to be ordered. GSF have Brembos discs for £36.25+ vat each and free delivery. They also have Texstar pads for £29.50+ vat.

Are there any performance options for the pads?

When I searched for Brembo, it said no results found? are all the ones listed for the RS Brembo then?.

I think YOU want to, go on, the calipers will match your new grill. :giggle:

Check with them, but a lot of the GSF stuff is zimmerman or brembo and if you phone up your local branch and request brembo they will give you the price.

I rang up today to confirm, the ones for the mk5 golf gti are Brembo ones and the pads listed are currently Bosch ones apparently.

Mine are in the post, I have had these discs for the Mk1 Vrs and they are good.

Nudge nudge ;) ;)

They are a bit on the small side though
