Milltek Exhaust

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I know a few of you out there have Milltek exhausts fitted and was hoping for some help.

I have recently tried to fit mine to my Octy will limited success. 2 sheared studs on the turbo was the first hurdle I came accross which was sorted pretty quickly but my bug with the system is that I can't seem to get it to sit straight, or seal properly. Any one else had this problem? Did you have to have different mounting rubbers fitted? I'm at a total loss as to what is with the system. Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

stronger rubbers would be advised as full stainless sytems are normally heavier then standards, or so i've been told. so although it may seem fine when fitted it might start to drop/wobble.

for the sealing problems whenever i do anything with an exhaust i stick shedloads of that goopy exhaust sealant both inside one pipe and outside the other. if your getting leaks on a gasketed fitting then i suggest checking that both surfaces are clear clean and flat and that you get a better gasket. other than that it should be relatively easy, we did my bro's focus in about a day's labour(spread over a couple day's) and that was manifold/de-cat and full system, the only problem we have had is the de-cat is a tiny bit longer than the cat and has "pushed" the sytem back so we need to "adjust" it to fit perfect.

Apparently the first version of the Milltek cat back systems didn't fit properly. The latest version is supposed to be much better for quality and fit.

Mine fits fine, been on now for well nearly 2 years. Never needed adjusting or reseating. I am quiet suprised that the thing is still sealing nicely at the turbo because I have no gasket in there. I do have the gasket to put in, I just havent needed to. The key to getting the system to hang right, is to position the pipe that goes over the rear cross bar correctly, and then get as much of the pipe in as possible. Took my local exhaust place 2 goes to get it to sit correctly.

Be extremely careful with that stuff!

It kills Lambda sensors.

This is the voice of expensive experience speaking

I'm extremely surprised it's not leaking!

Flanged joints need some kind of gasket to seal them as both faces will not be true to each other.

Found some piccies, this was their 1st attempt, a bit low, wonky and sticking out miles (around 3 inches).

Took it back and they had another go, much higher and sticks out about 1 inch.

All they did was reposition the pipe and insert more of the adjoining pipes into the other using a rubber mallet.

So none of you had to have uprated rubbers for the exhausts then.

I can't figure out whats going on with it, all pipes seem to be in as far as they'll go but the big problem seems to be with the rubbers being the long length. I got me system with the stealth pipe as opposed to your jet style and no matter what i do it seems to sit off to the right. If i twist the back-box it sits too high and when i pull the axle pipe down to clear the bumper, it runs too close to the axle.

Oh well, looks like it's a visit to an exhaust specialist to get it sorted then, let someone else have the problem i guess, save me the stress.

Thanks everyone for your input, it has been really helpful to me and much appreciated.

Pugsy....:) I work for a tyre and exhaust specialist company and i must say the Milltek is a pig to fit....the mid section (same as golf) fits ok, its when you get to the "s" pipe that goes over the axle that things become tricky....my mates @Primary Designs put a flat in the pipe near to the rear axle, it now fits fine.

 Due to the length of the rear box if the "s" pipe is not fitted correctly you will find the pipe sits to low/high and is not level...mine now looks like Mannyo`s and sounds awsome with a 100cel cat;:P

Mannyo VAG now do a all metal gasket for the turbo to down pipe, replacing the crap sandwiched gasket......;)

Cheers for that Phil.

Definately going to have to take it in to the garage now, had the clamps done up tight, started the engine about 2 hours ago and the exhaust seems to have come undone at the centre box/axle pipe join......DOH! Good job it's booked in tomorrow to be fitted by someone else. Gotten fed up with it now. The annoying thing is that I spent ages trying to fit it and lost a lot of skin in the process, let someone else lose their skin now.

I'll let you know how it goes................

Must add Mannyo, that exhaust does look good, wanted that style myself. Guess the stealth system they sent will look a little more OEM I suppose.

Well, got it kind of sorted. Doesn't blow, looks about right, a little crooked but absolutely nothing that could have been done about that. First opinion, pretty good, nice and quiet but burbles nicely as the revs pick up. Haven't been able to test it properly yet as the speed limiter was installed (SWMBO). Did feel a little flat at some points but not sure if it's the exhaust or the 4bar fpr. Will have to refit the 3bar and see what happens.

Thanks for all your advice, was really appreciated.
