What is this?

Featured Replies

Hi ppl,

Im not up on engine parts but i had been driving pretty much all day and whenever I turned my car off I heard a drooning noise which lasted about 5 seconds then goes off?!? I turned the car on, drove it, turned it off and it happened again.... so I repeated this process until I found where its coming from and attached is a photo of where the said noise is coming from.

It doesnt affect the car in any way but it just happens whenever I turn the car off - any clues as to what it cud be?

Many Thanks

Yeh I've wondered what that part is to...

Gonna guess its maybe something to do with the gears as it has 6 pipes coming off.. I'm probably wrong though  maybe cruise control related?

Anyone care to enlighten us? :)

Thanks guys,

So its called a vacuum control box - my fabia is still under warranty so im gonna give my local skoda dealer a call and see if I can drop the car off and get their opinion to see if it is a fault - good idea??

o o "thirdtimeluck" i found this forum reply (below) talking about our "humming" noise:

Honestly dont think the noise is meant to be there.

Steven

my fabia does it, and my mates too. thought it was normal.

Matt

That box is being asked to control quite a bit of vacuum generated by the vacuum pump, so is normal I think to hear it working. If something turbo / egr related is faulty, it might be the cause. They are usually really rock solid bits of kit that don't often go wrong.
