Will this be tricky to replace?

Featured Replies

the rear section of my front passenger door handle has always been intermittently loose - I'd just pop it back in when it got wobbly.

(and of course I never remember to mention it to the garage)

well, yesterday it popped out completely when i wasn't watching.

- how tricky is it going to be to find another one in Race blue ?

- is the intergrity of the car at any risk from the current big hole ? (okay the weather is fine, at the moment....)

- anyone know the part number i need off hand so I can get the dealer to look for one?

or will I just have to wait until another one gets written off, and ask for that bit whilst everyone else is fighting over the leather interior?

well, they got me a new bit, just uner 4 quid, but it'll need resprayed by someone else

also the bit looks right, but doesn't fit. What they got me looks just like a cover, but the clips on it don't attach to anything, so it doesn't stay put.

I'm sure the bit that is missing had like a fake lock barrel in it.

You need the metal (blank) barrel which fits into the big hole! your painted cover then clips to it.

The barrel is about £6 from VW/seat/skoda etc.

true enough, they've looked at it and agreed I need the extra bit

current thinking is that it was the barrel bit which was loose/broken and kept popping out, and the cover was firmly attached.

Mechanic had a poke around the hole to see what had hapened, and we heard a tinkling noise falling iside the door, so (Surprise surprise) once the other bit has arrived and my cover piece has been resprayed, I'll have to arrange a time to take the car into the garage so they can take the door to bits to fix the bits in properly.

My real annoyance is that I hadn;t mentioned the loose bit to the garage before now, as the warranty expured at the start of this month

hi eveyone

ive seen this problem before and have had experiance myself!

the handle is designed to be removed without having to remove the door trim!

when you open the door look at the side of the door and you should find a black plastic cover that hides a hex screw which hold the cover bit in place,

when you remove the door handle you have to pull the handle (as if you were opening the door) and undo the screw and remove the plastic blank piece and then slide the handle towards the hole and it should pop out

i am a expert at this as i am a strip fitter for a body shop and i had to strip my door down becuase someone hit me ;( ask devontopia! he saw the damage after ultimite dubs,
