Bought my 56 VRS in Nov last year. Since then I have been a regular observer but a once off poster on these forums. In these five months the car has been great a considerable step up from my 02 Polo but I have noticed that it seems to be suffering from a few of the more common issues raised by other Fabia owners, specifically; The EGR 06 stutter issue and of late the sticking/bending throttle switch.

I noticed both of these within a month of taking delivery of the car. The stutter is very unnoticeable and is of very little concern, the high idle when I first noticed it the car would sit at about 1000rpm a quick blip of the throttle would resolve the idle to 800. Tiny issue not worth the bother however the recent warm weather has had a more direct effect on the idle. After the car has been left sitting in the sun the idle is on and off sitting at 1500rpm, a blip of the throttle or toe under resolves the idle back to 800. As a 56 the car is of course outside of the Skoda warranty however having had an extended warranty on my 02 Polo that saved me close to £300 on a failed coil spring, I opted to take the same warranty for my VRS. It's safe to say that the previous owner more than likely didn't notice or didn't care about these rather minor issues to be honest until the recent wam weather started to effect the idle it wasn't a huge concern to me either.

So I went to book my car in yesterday to get it looked at, mentioned the high idle and the stutter and mentioned that they are both documented faults that Skoda would resolve under warranty. Now here comes the Arnold Clark magic, I was told that the car would have to be booked in for an inspection at a cost of £45, that if a fault was found it would be resolved under warranty. Now I can bet a million bucks that on the day my VRS will behave itself and the throttle will idle as normal and they won't be able to replicate the EGR stutter in their workshop, so I will be £45 out of pocket and still have these well documented issues.

Now I would love to walk in there with some official documentation saying that these are documented and that Skoda was replacing and resolving the faults under warranty the problem is after much internet searching I have been unable to find anything that is even close to an official statement, in fact bar what has been posted here I can find very little on the throttle issue (my main concern) while the EGR issue is just here say and how to replace it yourself.

I turn to you guys, anyone here come across some official info regarding the throttle switch issues, like I said the EGR issue ain't a huge concern it would be great if I could get that done too but if all else fails I will replace the EGR valve myself however the throttle switch is a safety concern and I don't want Arnold Clark to wriggle out of a fix just because they say they can't replicate the fault in their workshop, even more so since I paid for the extended warranty.

the egr prob happens because of emission regs..easy diy fix costing peanuts..the throttle prob is like anything,things do occasionally go wrong...certainly wudnt say its a common problem.

which warranty do you have ?

is it Arnold Clarks Autocare ?.............if so i wouldnt expect much of a problem they are usually good at paying out for things, im sure they can sort it for you, where are you from, which Arnold Clark is it going into

Yeah it is indeed the Autocare Warranty and I am taking it too the the VW AC in Helensburgh where I got the car from.

My main concern is that the intermittent nature of the problem means that come the day the car will behave itself and I'll end up looking like a chump and £45 poorer.

The annoying thing is I have tried a series of things to see if I can get the problem to occur in a predictable manner but it seems to be a random occurrence.

Next time the idle stays high pull the throttle pedal up and see if that cures it? sticking pedal is pretty common

I must have forgotten about that, I know I mentioned it but it most likely went missing in one of my edits, anyway, yes high idle is resolved back to normal by either a quick blip of the throttle pedal or by sticking my foot under the pedal and pulling upwards. It was this behaviour that lead me to assume it was the bending / sticky throttle switch that has been mentioned a few times on these forums rather than something else.
