Drivers Door electrics

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have an 02 L+K estate and have traced problems with the drivers door electrics to the usual water ingress in the window motor connections. Can anyone offer advise on how to remove the motor as I need to repair a couple of electrical pins and cant do it in situ, also has anyone repaired these or is it recommended to replace the unit?

Thanks Chris

Theres a thread somewhere about this.

Most people seem to have completely replaced the motor, which costs about £100 (parts) and an awful lot of labour.

Having looked through my Haynes Manual, im definitely not about to do the replacement myself :(

The door control unit is screwed to the window regulator, so the window regulator needs to be removed to access the door control unit screws.

Im gutted. Took my doors apart yesterday to attempt a repair. My passengers was fine, my drivers, a couple of the pins had completely rusted away, hence no remote central locking :(

Hi, Thanks for the comments, I have repaird the drivers door electrics today. I located a second hand window mechanism complete with the widow motor/door controller at a local breakers (£50 as against £195 + VAT just for the motor from the dealer) Installation really straight forward, just had to lower the window, loosen the 2 *10mm nuts securing the glass, lift the glass away from the mech, remove the 6 screws holding the mechanism in place then manipulate the whole unit out. Then repeat the process in reverse with the replacement part. Then I bought 2 repair connectors from the dealer (£1.66 + Vat) and replaced the corroded connections in the multi plug. From start to finish it took me about 1.5 hrs.
