Central locking question

Featured Replies

Hi,

just bought an 03 Fabia Classic 54 fitted with the remote central locking option. Noticed the locking system appears to work differently to what I'm used to on other Skoda's I've owned. Therefore I wondered if it's as should be or a fault I need the dealer to look at (unless there's a quick fix).

The operation I'm getting at the moment is on unlocking and opening the drivers door if I don't open the other doors or start the engine then the remaining doors relock themselves after a minute. Now I thought this only happened if you unlocked the car but did not open any doors at all :wonder:

The other thing which is a fault is the tailgate lock sometimes fails to unlock (engine off) and you have to revert to using the leaver.

Thoughts on this one would be appreciated.

Sounds like maybe the door sensor isn't registering the drivers door being opened, which sort of ties in to the boot lid issue too. Does the interior light go on/off with the drivers door? If not, that would suggest the door sensor could be playing up, hence the relocking of the other doors. Assuming you start the engine, the issue doesn't happen?

The boot lid is linked to the doors on the Fabia, so if the ignition was on, and a passenger got out to go to the boot then it won't open until the driver opens there door - it's done for security. Not sure if that's your issue or not though.

Hi Triggerfish,

thanks, interior light does come on when you first unlock it but there has been the odd occasion after shutting down the engine and getting out that it fails to light then. Also boot light very intermittent; more off than on.

If you start the engine before the doors relock then they do stay unlocked. Boot problem is on unlocking to get in, so engine off.

Would suggest to me that the switches for the door and the boot are at fault. I know it's not working currently, but when it is, a search should reveal more as they seem quite a common bit to fail.

I have a Skoda Fabia 1.9 SDI Estate and thought i had this problem also. When you open the car with the key fob (not using the key in the lock), after 30 seconds it will lock all the doors if none are opened, but if you open the drivers door but don't start it, all the doors except the drivers door lock as part of a security system. Prob stops people accessing the car while you get ready to head off e.g. whilst pluging in phone / attach Ipod / putting on belt....

I didn't realise it did this until i had a phone call from a mate whilst i was getting in the car. I normally get in and start the motor to allow oil to surculate while i put on the seat belt, but as i was talking to him, the doors locked as i hadn't started the car.
