Had one for a day...10 plate 1.2 power house only done 30 miles. Had to rev the absolute guts out of it to go anywhere and even then struggled to get over 100 on the motorway. My 1.25 zetec a used to have done 115 easy. Do they get any faster with some more miles on the clock?

If only it had done another 10 miles then you'd probably have been able to go an extra 10mph lol.

Pardon me -I'm of ye old-style - but I was always taught to be kind to Pregnant women /babies and gentle to not run in vehicles .A thought reflected in P147 of my Skoda (2003) manual -"THE ENGINE HAS TO BE RUN IN FOR THE FIRST 1500KM( approx 950 miles) .

"Avoid high engine revs for first 1000 km ( 620 miles) "-bit more than 30 ,methinks .

BTW - how many miles did the Zetec do before throwing rods/big ends /blowing expensive smoke .

If you can't treat a new car with respect - .........................................................

Notice like some others ,I'm not bothered about your speed ,but about your respect for the car .

OH-BTW - my 1.4TDI will easily exceed 115( comparing engine revs to speed) , but doing so would put the revs over what I consider a safe limit -so I don't do it ( and wouldn't do it even if it wasn't mine ) .And then - have you looked at the tyre specs - -first of all -grip is not at best till after approx 310 miles ( Skoda handbook) , and tyres fitted to Mk1 Fabias ( possibly also to MK2/3) ARE NOT RATED ABOVE 100 MPH- a fact pointed out to me by a tyre fitter .Then - brakes - not absolutely 100% for at least 100-2-- miles -they need bedding in .

Pity these things ( like how to check oil /water/brake fluid levels aren't part of the driving test ,but come with years of experience .

Now ,I'm not trying to be an old wet blanket - I used to ( and still do ) make excellent progress , but my tyres are rated above my vehicles performance -I heed my rev counter , and limit my revs/speed to that within the car's capabilities .And for the first 300 miles on new tyres 9(at least 100 on new brakes ) I don't push things .Perhaps that's why I have a lot of year's NCB ,AND mega years no convictions ,despite not being an old fuddie duddie .

Not my car... so not my problem, garage rag my car when its in... call it karma. 33mpg my car had on its last drive when i got it back. Reving a new engine at temp is good for it, driving it like a granny messes it up. zetec hit a wall before it blew up... crap brakes, locked up in heavy rain doing 100. Red line every gear, still struggled to keep up with motor way traffic. Don't need to worry about the tires did some burnouts to bed them in and some j-turns to bed the brakes in.

Out of the mouths of fools and babes ,think the saying is .Survey by tyre makers ( and auto trade) reckoned that at 60 MPH , tyres were not fully in contact with road - so wheels locking up was not problem - bad driving was .OH-and in heavy rain -it's sometimes a good idea to dry out brakes -possibly what happened to yours -wet pads etc made you think brakes were crap ,then as they dried ,they locked wheels ,which had no grip in a waterlogged road ,you were aquaplaning on ,and you slid on -much like water ski ing .

No, they don't. Make a good bit of noise, but not a lot else.
