Arch mod on Fabia vRS?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

After studying this thread : http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/138190-show-me-your-vrs-arch-mods/ - I thoguht it would be a nice mod to do on my vRS.

Is the Fabia vRS inter-cooler in the same place as the octy one? ie. just in front on the front offside wheel arch?

If it is then it should work with a furby to yes? :)

Many thanks, Ben.

It's in the o/s front corner too. I did mine with a TT arch liner when I got it mapped.

Regards Chris

I've done some digging around too and found instead of using TT archs (which imo a bit expensive). someone suggested bnq grills in black? the drilling method is not my thing because I don't have patience :D.

My follow on question is, if its worth doing one side, is it worth over doing and do it on both sides?

in a word no. The intercooler is on the drivers side, t'other side is the washer bottle, so unless you wanna ventilate that there's no point.

Ooo, pretty. Thanks for the pics to clarify.

what size grille did you use?

I've tried the search here - and it's not working, no results returned every time !

anyway, I just need to know approx. size of grille used/needed then i can buy one of the following

If you are going to use a metal vent, you need to Plastikote it. It's hostile under there - especially when there is salt on the road.

If you want the cheaper option then look for a plastic vent. It must be flush when fitted.

A TT wheel arch liner is about £22 incl VAT and is the best solution if TigerSealed (£8 delivered) in. It has the OEM look and allows a massive amount of air through. This is one of the most cost-effective mods you can do - even at £30 all in.

cheaper than my solution of buying a Forge FMIC!

Ok thanks very much for the helpful info chaps! :)

Certainly the next mod on my list :) what with summer coming and all ;)

Aluminium vents are unlikely to rust mate.

I'm a builder and use these type of vents regularly.

Got to say that they bend easily and are not particularly robust.

True, but wouldn't the brakes benefit from the added air? Or would the vent be blocked off by the washer bottle?

P.S are they Proxes tr1s? :)

The cheaper aluminium vents have a thin varnish coating and the more expensive ones are anodised.

After having wet grit and other c**p thrown at them, it's not long before you see the white oxide forming.

The wheel arch liner isn't flat, so being bent easily is an advantage.

My mate tried one and it didn't last a month. Because he'd cut the hole to fit, he had no option but to fit another one. He plastikoted it and it's still OK several years later.

I don't know TBH

:nerd: Well spotted that man. Wrapped around my winter steelies

:);)

Ordered the Audi vent and a bottle of TigerSeal off ebay following others recomendations.

Recon I'll be able to cut the arch liner (to fit the TT vent) with a Stanley knife? or is it a jig-saw jobby?

I swear my Ibiza has a vent built into the arch liner, despite having a FMIC as standard... :S

Could be for the breaks maybe

but it's only on one side, where the SMIC would have been

I used a dremel tool to cut the vent out and for the hole.

The Stanley knife doesn't work well (even with a new heavy duty blade), so use a jigsaw.

When you come to cut the vent out you have a choice.

You can cut a square panel or follow the lines of the vent which is thinner at the top.

I did the latter. Looking from the back of the TT arch, I marked out the cut leaving 15mm around the edges of the vent.
