Annoying buzzing/rattling sound

Featured Replies

I have a very irritating rattle/buzzing sound coming from the boot area (’09 hatchback Ltd Ed). Gets worse as the road surface gets worse.

I’ve started eliminating possible causes:

1) ensuring I’m not carrying anything loose

2) driving with rear seats in various positions

3) driving with parcel shelf off

…but still buzzing away.

Just wondered if anyone had solved a similar problem. Not sure what else to try other than have someone prod & poke various bits of trim while I’m driving along.

Cheers!

A similar sounding problem on mine was caused by the rear seat centre armrest. MAybe be worth a try. It rattles if open or closed, but is OK if halfway up!. I took it off & gave it a shake, nothing obviously loose. If I close it with an old sock in it it is OK!. I'll get dealer to fix when on 1st service. I also read somewhere that something can fall off in the tailgate cavity. I expect someone will be along soon with that one..

This may sound a bit daft but have you tried the speaker covers on the rear doors - I had this annoying buzz that I tracked down to the flimsy speaker grill vibrating away on one side with particular road surfaces. The buzz seemed to transmit itself such that it sounded like it was coming from the parcel shelf. The other culprit in my experience is the plastic behind the fold down arm reast on the rear seat - stuff some cloths in there temporarily and see if it goes away.

I would definitely have a look around the rear seat area too.

My LE est did not rattle at all but I have had similar problems with the HB.

check the spare wheel too ..... i found the retaining clamp on mine was a bit loose and it was vibrating a bit over bad ground.

I've got similar issues with my L & K rude - was about to post the same question - its like a leather on leather buzz which gets worse over the bumps. Settles down and then starts up again.

Hadn't thought about the armrest - I thought it was coming from the door/rear seat bolster area.

It does sound like it could be leather on leather. The boulster part (ltd ed leather) on the passenger side doesn't appear to fit very well - there's a much bigger gap than the other side. I thought it could be this moving about, but it still happens if the seat back is down.

I tried various arm rest combinations yesterday combinations but the noise is still there.

If you have a box for sunglasses in the roof, check that.

It's defo coming from the back. Appeared louder with the parcel shelf out, so possibly coming from the boot area..
