Featured Replies

Car sometimes wont start, possibly alternator i thought

was going to replace glow plugs today and look what i found

just a few questions.

1) what has likely caused this?

2) can i just get another glow plug 'rail' of a smashed fabia vrs and connect it with a straight through connector onto my wiring?

3) when i've done this should i put some electric contact grease on the top of the glowplugs to ensure its getting a good connection

4) would this possibly be my starting issue?

thanks

This is fairly typical - and is caused by a crappy VAG detail designed for cheap assembly.

Glowplugs take a lot of current, especially when cold and need a good low resistance connection. PSA know all about this - they use a good old fashioned ring tag and nut, which does not give trouble.

You need a new harness and a new plug. Putting a new harness on the oxidised and sooted pin of the old glowplug will just ensure a repeat performance. I would recommend smearing the glowplug connector pin with silicone grease (nothing else) and repeating this as part of your annual maintenance.

Talk about spoiling the ship....

hi thanks for that! I have 4 new plugs waiting to go in :) the harness how do you change it? Will i have to cut the old unit out and splice the wiring?? Or does it unplug? Thanks

Have a look at the parts list and see how much harness you have to buy.
