Possible purchase of Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi

I currently have a 2004 BMW 530d and love it. I want to down size, and am considering the alternatives to a 320d.

How much cabin noise do you hear at high speeds ?

Im looking to get the vrs, I drive around 6000 miles a year, 1000 of which are on the motorway. Should i get a diesel or petrol?

What mpg should i expect in town?

And at around 90- 100 on the motorway? The BMW, can manage 40 easily.

Anything to look out for, when buying one?

Thanks in advance

Dan

Police?

On the cabin noise front it performs well i'd say, most people comment that it's quieter than they expected and are surprised as I have a diesel (1.9 PD TDi).

From what you hear due to diesels coming at a premium over petrol's the cost per mile tipping point is reckoned to be about 15k miles from what you hear, but as petrol and diesel are the same price now, and diesels do better on tax (I only pay £120 a year on my Octy) perhaps this is somewhat different now? Either way it depends on what you pay for the beast!

I stick to 70 - 80 on the motorway and it returns over 50mpg, I usually get about 600 miles out of 50ltrs (55mpg??) from a tank which includes some round town driving, A roads etc and i'm not shy when it comes to chucking it about etc

Things to look out for? If it has ESP (not TCS or other but specifically ESP) then the sensor goes or could be gone and that's expensive, check if it needs a new belt change soon... ummm nothing really springs to my mind.

I know someone who swapped his BMW 320d for an Octy and just bought his second one... also read this... http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/features/article823731.ece

Sorry, but we're not mind readers...... I thought exactly the same when you asked about economy at 90 -100.... If you had mentioned

about use abroad on the Autobahn then it would help other users answer your queries.

I can tell you that the Octavia is fantastic at covering distances with ease. Covered just over 1000 miles since Saturday morning, 630 miles in

one day alone !

Which part of my original question requires me to mention that i drive 90-100mph on the Autobahn?

Even if i did drive 90-100mph in the UK which i dont, it has absolutely nothing to do with you!

Well , if you'd been less of an arse when someone makes a light hearted reply you might have got more help.

As it is , plenty of people have made their minds up about you...

Do i give a monkeys? Im here to decide which car to buy. Not to make friends and have a big epenis like you!

You're certainly successful at not making friends. I own a BMW (2008 5-series) as well as a vRS and I'm often having to defend BMW drivers. Then you come along with your 'attitude' and reinforce the stereotype that we're all arogant snots.

Care to compare the cars, or would you rather just comment on my "attitude" If i am an "arrogant snot" why would i even consider getting a Skoda?

Just realised that you have no car

A diesel vRS will do about 46mpg on a long fast motorway run and a petrol vRS will do about 33mpg.

Doing the kind of miles you are doing per year, I'd suggest going for the TSi petrol engine as I prefer it myself but I know some people prefer the way diesels drive.

Best bet would be to drive the car for yourself and see which you prefer driving.

Cheers, what do you consider a "long fast motorway run"? 80mph?

Do you have any vrs to test drive, and where are you based?

100mph or so. I go to Rheinland-Pfalz quite a bit so I know what they are like at higher speeds. The TSi engine is suprisingly diesel like in it's torque curve and will happily cruise at very high speeds without engine noise or wind noise being intrusive, some tyres can make a hell of a racket on the concrete sections of Autobahn though.

If you drive very, very fast on the autobahns you'll get between 24mpg and 28mpg. and not much more in a diesel since they seem to have lower gearing than the TSi.

Yes, I've got a petrol TSi vRS hatchback as a demonstrator, but no diesel manual at the moment, have got a used diesel DSG vRS though if that's of any use to you.

Thanks - ill contact you when i'm ready to buy probs around 4-6 weeks, depending on how long my car takes to sell.

Well, there is a certain bunch of people here who are more interested in upping their post count then actually helping the poster or focusing on the question asked, and mostly trying to be funny or smart which they neither manage. Of course that doesn't mean the OP should get angry, just move along! ;)
