I have a new VRS CR diesel with about 3K on the clock. I am currently getting 46 mpg with mixed driving if that helps at all.

Hi,

I have a Petrol VRS and since buying it last October I have averaged 28mpg, that's roughly between 320 and 350 miles per tank (55L). i have yet to use it just on the motorway but reckon almost 400 miles is possible. As for build quality I came from an 06 audi S4 and the quaility is slightly down (Not much) but the toy count and VFM factor is up. The Octy is obviously slower than the Audi but i haven't found myself wishing it was a lot quicker, plus remaps are always available if that's what you want. Friends of mine have BMWs and I have to say that the build quality on them is (Flame suit on) poor compared to the skoda, for a supposedly premium product.

Hope that helps

Paul

P.S Not sure about fuel economy at 90 mph ! ;)

Way to make friends!

Is this chap seriously asking for help ?

I've recently bought a VRS Tdi PD, less than 2 weeks ago in fact. I have to say after driving Seats and BMW's for the last 5 years or so the car is very defined, much more like the 3 series than the Seat. In fact I'd go as far as to say there is no more cabin noise in my Skoda than there was in the 330d. However, if you are going to do as little as 6k a year you may opt for the petrol. I like the flexibility of the diesel engine for everyday driving, but the car will cost you more to purchase initially over the petrol. Another thing to note on the flip side is petrol and diesel are equally expensive these days so the time taken to recoupe that purchase price difference maybe shorter than you think. I've not owned the car long enough to know its traits yet, but I have to say I am very pleased with it.

I'd stick with the beemer! The brand is better suited to your decorum.

I think its called a "lack of interpersonal skills" emoticon-0138-thinking.gif

Well, there is a certain bunch of people here who are more interested in upping their post count then actually helping the poster or focusing on the question asked, and mostly trying to be funny or smart which they neither manage. Of course that doesn't mean the OP should get angry, just move along! emoticon-0105-wink.gif

Hehe CEPi 's count goes from 74 to 75 ;)

emoticon-0148-yes.gif and I think you'll find DrZoldberg, Stoofa, Hauptmann and others are amongst the most helpful people on the forum emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I certainly do speed, but my comment was not on BMW owners speeding, more driver attitude. Which IMHO is what causes accidents. If I was to ride my bike like I owned the road it would only be a matter of time untill I became part of the road, hence why I ride as if every car is going for me. Not wanting to temp fate but so far that has done me well as I have never been involved in a RTI, car or bike.

On the track is a different matter and I own ever inch of it and funnily enough I've come off or as I like to put it my enthusiasm has exceeded my ability.emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Anyway back to topic with fuel prices going up and up I went for the oil burner as I have other toys for fun. I test drove both and in DSG however the DSG oil burner was the PD one and I perfered the CR engine that comes in the new FL. More refined engine and a bit more eager to rev. Also didn't sound like a tug boat as much. I have a slk auto and was not sure if I wanted my main "family" car to be an auto as well but after a test drive it certainly impressed me and is far better than conventional autos like in my merc which I find myself hating some days.

Had a look at lots of cars and the vrs ticked more boxes than other makes did for the price and have always liked VAG cars.

I agree with that bit, I only have a Yamaha XT125X but the amount of cars pulling out from junctions without looking is quite amazing (and scary for me).

Thanks for that. I'm going to test drive both then decide. I've decided on one thing - buy used. Going to buy a new hornet / Z750.

The CR must drive like a petrol?! I've drive VAG diesels now for nearly 6 years and the PD170 engine took me by surprise. It revs far more than any other VAG diesel engine I have driven. In fact I miss the 2k wallop that the 130 and 150 PD engines offer. I might test drive a CR. I've got my VRS booked in next week for warranty work so hopefully I can blag one.
