Fuel Consumption

Featured Replies

My 1.3 mpi 50 kw felly will consume

7lt/100km on the highway doing 100-110 without particular hypermiling technics.

On the city though if you drive normally you are going to get around 9lt/100km maybe 10 in heavy traffic.

Hypermiling (with an L) techniques can get me the ideal consumption declared by the factory (5.8 l/100 km) but without any driving joy.

Normal consumption on the highway for my Felicia on carburetor (58 HP) is 6.5 l /100 km at 110 km/h.

City driving during winter or during summer on heavy traffic gets me a consumption of 9l/100 km.

yes i wrote milling my mistake, done.
But why does my car consume more than the carburated one?

Hi everyone, nice to meet you!! I dig this old topic, cause i never have see fuel consumption under 9lt/100km. I have changed everything... really.. everything..

Fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, valves timing, catalytic converter, middle and final muffler, clutch, tires, 165/70/13,. All brand new!!

I try my hardest for fuel economy, but nothing. A full tank gives me a 400-420km range. My Felicia is a 2000,  1.3lt mpi 50kw (AMH)

I forgot.. plus a lambda sensor.. brand new..

Fuel consumption depends on SO MANY variables that you didn't cover in your reply.

Changing parts blindly doesn't achieve the desired result.

you just have a heavy foot...or a worn out engine

Based on what from his message?

Because I could also list over 10 other possible reasons out of thin air.

English is my 2nd language and i still learning. Can you please explain what you mean with the worn out engine?  I change gears at 3.300 rpm max. Most times at 2.600rpm at the max torque. So i can not say that i have a heavy foot. At highway my speed is 120km/h max. Usually is 90-100km/h.

Low compression or leaky valves (maybe misadjusted) so inefficient engine

@Thefeliciahacker

It is not good practice to suggest faults without any evidence.

Those that are asking for help need to learn FIRST from us how to diagnose their car. Remember that their expectations from us are usually wrong. They want us to guess what's wrong WITHOUT ANY TEST and without us having direct access to their car. A professional doesn't read in a crystal globe.

correct I apologise but what i stated is common causes for poor engine efficiency not only applicable to the felly

How much worn out? My engine had 300k km on odo and still could go for 5,4l/100km on long trips within speed limits. Slightly above 6l/100 was norm, and I never went beyond 7l/100. Another felly with 250k+ was the same. Wear usually isn't issue with these engines.

MPI goes quite rich during heating up. So I'd suggest to check temperature sensors, both coolant and intaike air. New lambda sensor doesn't mean it's functional, there can be faulty wiring, too. These things have to be checked with diagnostics, before you start with swapping parts.

Also, haven't you changed headgasket recently?

No, i didn't change headgasket. Mine has almost 102.000km on the odometer. I bought it from an old man.. on the diagnostic computer it didn't show any fault except the lambda sensor so i replace it. I clean the fuel injectors recently, and adjust the valves. Still it consumes a lot of gas. Really i dont know ehat else to do. When garages open again i will go for compression measurement to see what's going on.

Knowing how to diagnose an engine involves a lot of knowledge, both about engine specifics and about diagnosis strategies. Swapping parts based only on errors stored in the engine computer is (sadly) a bad habit of many garages.

I suggest letting a professional car technician diagnose the engine. He will look first at several basic variables, like short trim fuel trim (STFT) and long term fuel trim (LTFT). Then he will adjust the testing strategy accordingly.

No problem, we answer in older topics because «Verba volant, scripta manent» and via google search anyone can get help in his problem.

What spark plugs do you use now?

Did you clean the MAP sensor with a specific spray for this task?

Your wheel bearings are OK?

Did the hoses from filter to throttle have a small gap?

The throttle itself is cleaned with a specific spray for this task?

The diagnostic test isn't an insurance that will find every problem.

There is a simpler answer. See that green zone marked on the tachometer? There's your answer.

This only applies for taxi drivers (petrol), in cities with heavy traffic no one with gasoline car passes the green zone simply because there is no ''road in front of him" to do it

1st,2nd maybe 3rd gear for few seconds only and then you have red light or traffic due to stop sign or someone is trying to park etc.

Those situations are gas-killers and if there are some other causes (dirty MAP-filter,not proper spark plugs or wrong valve adjustment etc) the moving in green zone won't help you at all.

I read somewhere that 45 kg of extra trunk weight means at least 1-2% extra fuel consumption, i thought about it and i tried to make some corrections.

Recently i discover that i am carrying an extra weight of 30 Kg (!) on the trunk, my 2 bags were full or tools because i make many repairs while the car is parked (i haven't my own garage)

I was afraid that maybe i will need something so i was adding tools ''just in case", the result was that i was carrying too much weight and this made things on fuel consumption much worst.

Below is an older example:
