hell of a noise

Featured Replies

hello

after my massive repair bill last month im in for another shocker im sure my cars been getting a little noisy over time and the other week it got bad. when the cars running i have to press my clutch in and keep it out of gear when ive stopped it i take my foot off the clutch the engine gets very lumpy and sounds like a tractor it idles very rough only way to idle good is if my clutch is in.

It dont help if i give it loads of gas to pull off it still jumps like i cant find the biting point

i dont smell the clutch burning and it dont seem to slip when im driving around. this morning was the worst i stopped at the lights put into netural and the car was trying to go it seems like it was still in gear. if i put it into gear i dont even have to give it gas and its trying to go.

im getting alot of vibration on the clutch pedal too ? i get a clicking sound if i try to reverse too. another wierd one is if i put the car into gear and then try to turn the engine with my foot on the clutch the car jumps forward

would this be a clutch or a gear box problem do you think ? just dont know if your clutch is on the way out is it normaly nosiy ?

thanks for any help thanks

Release bearing?

:S any more info ive never had a problem with the clutch/gearbox before i will do a search and see what i can find.

also i forgot to say that when i accelerate in any gear the sound gets louder if i dont give it gas its ok but then when i stop i have to still with the clutch in otherwise its nosiy kinnda sounds like a old ford with a major tappets issue its the best way i can describe the sound again thanks for any more info

Sounds to me like your duel mass flywheel could be failing.

Not massively familarier with the clutch assembly in the Octy, but I know in an old volvo the gf once had, the release bearing started to fail and it sounded like a badg of spanners rattling about when your foot was on the clutch. At least it stopped it sitting with her foot on the clutch at traffic lights. Not sure if it would cause the other issues however.

well ive booked it to go to the mech where they did the other work and he did say if it was the dual mass fly wheel it would cost abit...... thats all i need now :'(

today the car was ok just a little nosiy only for a sec too..... anyways how would they find the fault ? they said doing a test drive and maybe doing a diagnostics adding an extra £46 to the bill would the diagnostics be needed.

also after having that steering rack last month ive started to see fluid under the car again and look like the power stering fluid is going down again so im not to happy with them as they fitted a new rack and track rod ends just weeks ago

Ok so i took my car down the place i normaly have all the work done they told me it was the fly wheel. so Asked them to price the job for me £590(clutch and dual mass kit) so i gave them the go ahead. today i got a call back and they said the kit went on ok so thats good but i asked the to check my steering rack as it satrted to leak after they fitted one not even three weeks back they have told me now it needs another steering rack putting in as this one cant be repaired something about leaking near a boot joint or something the manager of the place said he will look into the warranty of the rack but what i really want to know is whos going to have to pay for the removal and fitting of the second rack ? Can i claim from the place they brought the rack or should they just fit it.

he didnt say on the phone but i will ask when i get a call back about the warranty of the rack. really not having much luck and ive lost alot of work been a subbie and the motors off the road

I take it you supplied the rack??

if so you will have to foot the bill and try and claim it back from the parts supplier

should have brought an uprated clutch and flywheel would be cheaper than oem but last 10x longer
