Wife's handbag has scratched my glovebox and trim

Featured Replies

Wife gets in the car carrying her handbag (BIG) and a metal strip that has come out from the lid has caused a deep scratch across the s/steel trim above the glove box lid and the glove box!!

It wont repair, so looks like new parts.

Anyone know approximate cost for the s/steel trim and a new glove box lid?

GRRRRR I would be bouncing around....

Sadly no idea prices but send her the bill.

It could be worse. Next door neighbour's wife caught his iPod cradle with her handbag.

Broke the cradle, the vent, the cradle cable and the cable for his bluetooth (they were tie-wrapped together behind the dash).

My wife has done the same and I have told her off! At least mine is just across the glovebox door, cheap plastic!

You should be glad its inside, mine (wife not handbag) crashes hers into the bodywork:

One of these, nice big chain:

or these, lots of medieval buckles:

OR, due to the comical camber on the road outside our house, dragging the bottom of the door along the pavement

:'( :'(

While not ideal, at least it's the bodywork bearing the brunt of the damage rather than the handbag...the bodywork's cheaper to repair...

Doubt it's a lot - the Scout version with grap handle is €50 from Skodateile - http://www.skodateile.cz/index.php?pg=product∏=142&menu=%A9koda%7COctavia%20II%28A5%29 - they used to have the grab handle version with the VRS logo on, but I can't see it anymore.

You should be able to remove the damaged one and read the part number of the back - normally is part of the moulding. Then call the dealer for a price...

Are you sure it was the wifes handbag and not the GF's stilletoes Chris? ;)

Everytime my wife gets in the car she scuff's something with her handbag or whatever else she is pointlessly carrying. Even though we have an estate and all the back seats are clear she insists on putting everything in the footwell with her. Does my head in!!!!

So far all the scuffs have wiped off with a baby wipe but this sounds pretty bad if it needs new trim!

Women. (and not to be sexist men if they are carrying a man bag or tool belt perhaps)

As a side note the worst thing is picking up elderly relatives with walking sticks. Smash, bang, wallop along your door sills.

unlucky I hope you get it sorted.

I see it like this

Women with hand bags, rings, nails or even keys that scratch you car should be delt with by a slap across the face...................they will then know ever to do this again.

Old people with sticks that hit the sill etc, take the said walking stick off them and beat them with it.....................they will never do it again.

Not as much as your wifes Handbag.

Sacrifice it on eBay.

Mine scratched my glovebox door with her handbag too. Her other handbag trick is to put the bag on the foot-well matt, where her feet should be, forcing her left foot up onto the unprotected carpet to the side, bobbling it all up.

Been onto the Parts dept at the dealer

£57.11 inc.vat for the glove box lid

£16.03 inc. vat for the brushed aluminium strip

(1 and half hours to fit the glove box lid) .....I DONT THINK SO!!!

I'll touch the lid up with a wax crayon!!

1.5 hours to change the glovebox lid

I've had the whole glove box / lower dash out on my last mk2 Octy. It's really, really easy.

LOL, sorry, no. Just grab a screwdriver, get down in the foot-well looking up and you can't really go wrong. No gotchas at all.

How does the silver trim come off?

No gotchas at all.

Just watch the air bag switch cable emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

How does the silver trim come off?

If its the same as the trim beside the light switch it just pulls off, has spring clips behind it to hold it on,

Might be worth trying one of those Magic Sponge things depending just how deep the scratches are, certainly might work on the plastic.....http://www.3mselect.co.uk/p-626-scotch-brite-easy-erasing-pad-pk-2.aspx

Some people on detailingworld have sorted scuffs and things quite well with them

Dont press too hard with it though!
