60K service???

Featured Replies

our octy SDI was in for it's 60K service

i though this was the big one where it's timing belt needs changed

but the service guy said they inspected the belt and is not due for change at the moment

is this right??? so when will it need changed???

thanks

hmm i would have *made* them change it anyway. if its due to be changed. get it changed as early as you can or face the often..hideous...consequences

Its a big risk for them to take, inspecting a cambelt isnt an exact science.

Service sheet says an SDi cambelt should be done @ 60k along with a tensioner.

ok folks i phoned the service guy up and he said that on certine chassis numbers they have extended the mileage on timing belts to be changed between 70K and 90K, he said it will be inspected at 70K service

still not convinced just going to book it back in to get it changed as i don't think the service guys right

They might well be right, but if you look on the bottom of the latest service sheet for a specific SDi engine code it remains 60k.

I dont understand why they dont want your money, are they afraid of changing your belt or are they so busy they cant fit you in?

Very odd, only take a customer to ask me once and I'll change a timing belt, I need the bonus ;)

The service guy may well be correct - I was asking about durations with a Skoda mechanic a couple of weeks ago and remember him saying the change duration on some diesels is greater than others depending on chassis no, although I dont know which engines he was refering . PDI's he told me are all 60K - I was at the time having my sons 1.4 16v cam belt and tensioners changed - (plastic part of tensioners failed - common on 1.4 16v VAG)

edited - oops - just noticed pc left logged in as the wife

my otcy vrs is due a servie soon where can i find out what needs doing its almost at 55k so woudl that be a 60k service or a 50k mmmm

Sounds like you are either on variable servicing or sometime in the past its been doing less than 10k a year and the servicing is out of line mileage wise. How many services has it had?
