Fabia seats

My stepmum has a Skoda Fabia, but she finds the seats very uncomfortable - can you get seats from other cars (VW, Seat or Audi?) to fit the Fabia?

You could get the sport seats out of the Fabia, ive got them in mine and there wonderfully comfortable.

are they similar to standard seat but with bigger side partitions or whatever they're called?

Yer saught of, google is your friend or skoda's website might have a picture of the seat.

They're much better bolstered and are a big improvement on the original seats which are much worse than they look. Personally i have three problems with them:

1. The side cushions are too soft so it feels like you're falling off the seat when you go round a corner.

2. Non-existent lumbar support means that the seats are not very comfortable for long distances.

3. A personal preference for decent side bolsters is not fulfilled by the standard seats!

The problem is that getting replacement Sport seats would be enormously expensive.

One option might be to get some from a breaker, but firstly there aren't many Fabia Sports around so there probably won't be that many available, and secondly they have airbags in them which have often gone off if the vehicle has been scrapped because of an accident (the most likely cause in such a new vehicle). If the airbag goes off then at the very least you need to restitch the seat and really you should replace the airbag first, which is a pretty costly option.

So whichever way you do it, it is likely to be a costly option to pursue. What a shame it is that you can't specify them as standard when the car is new...

I agree with the lumber support or lack of it. There's probably something aftermarket...let us know if anyone's seen /used a decent quality one.

I agree about the sliding about. It has taken 6 months for my drivers seat foam to collapse enough for it to hold me in place. Now it has, the support is much better, I no longer move about and the lumber support seems better too.

When I first got the car in October last year I would end up slowing down to turn right because if I didn't I would end up sliding over towards the hand brake. I got lowered suspension so I could go around corners at a reasonable speed, I was not amused to find I couldn't.

The car has done nearly 3,000 miles now and is beginning to loosen up a bit and with a seat that now supports me I am beginning to enjoy the ride. (I've got the 1.6 Petrol Fabia MK2)

I wouldn't try to change the seats until the foam has collapses a bit in the standard ones. It would cost money that you may not need to spend.

Agree with that, I found the seats lacking in lateral support, but 10,000 miles in and they are better. A recent trip to Spain and back highlighted no comfort issues at all, apart from achy shoulders due to my stupid body shape!

mine's done over 15K now and my seats still feel the same as when they were from the first day i got the car

I've got a Fabia 3, now am I right in saying there is a difference in seats from the 1 and 2 to the 3? I remember sitting in a 2, and then a 3 and thinking the 3 was more comfy. Have I imagined this, because I though it was only different seat covers, but I'm sure the seat felt softer.

But no change in seats over the 7,000 miles I've done in the car since I got it when it was 18 months old.

I also have to agree the side support is pretty rubbish, I just feel like the seat was made for people much wider than me, I just seem to roll between the two sides of the seat, when cornering enthusiastically, and end up clinging on to the steering wheel. Although recently I seem to have subconsciously altered the way I sit, and as a result I think I pre-empt the roll, and push myself into the seat more. I dunno just feels better now anyway.

I don't believe they would as the base frame/runners are different. However, I would suggest two options;

1. Get a pair of Recaro seats, probably the best you can get, they will fit with runners specifically for a Fabia. I had a Recaro fitted into a Fabia I so this ought to work, or

2. Have your existing seats converted to 'sport' spec. This is easily done as you only have to change the fabric and cushions/bolsters; the frames are the same throughout the range. I did this on my wife's Roomster, full details of which can be found here;- http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/126200-scout-front-seats/page__p__1660798__hl__sport%20seats__fromsearch__1entry1660798

second option is a good idea if it's not expensive but first option sounds expensive if you want genuine Recaro seats, make that two, and what about the side airbags.

Astute observation; well done. Yes; first option is quite reasonable all considered, it cost me c. £850 IIRC. A pair of Recaros is at least double that and you would have to forgo the side airbags.

Overall pays your money & takes your choice!

Hello,

I think the seats are made in UK by a firm called Johnson Controls. It might be worth speaking to them.

Good luck
