Spiritual Predecessor of the Yeti

Featured Replies

I remebered not too long ago (possibly last night) I filled up a poll regarding why I chose the Yeti. Apart from the no-nonsense badge that makes it understated but also unique, the real reason why I chose the Yeti actually comes from what I would call the Yeti's predecessor.

Always been a fan of eccelctic cars, but never been able to find one either new enough or reliable enough - love the Avantime but they are horribly made.

I have always been a fan of the MkII Golf Synchro or strictly "Country": http://germancarscene.com/wp-content/uploads/golf-country-22-12-07.jpg http://de.academic.ru/dic.nsf/dewiki/1446028

The Yeti really reminds me of that and not so long ago there was one for sale near me - needs work for MOT for nearly £4000!!

The Talbot Matra Ranchero is the spiritual predecessor for my 2wd version !

mk1 subaru forester is the predecessor o' mah wee beasty

For me, my Octavia I 4x4 Turbo hatchback. Probably the best car I've owned and to this day wish I'd kept her :(

This could be controversial - The Morris Minor Traveller

Poor comparison.

You can fit snowchains on them !

In what respect did you find the Octy better than the Yeti? I ask because I used to have an Octy 1.8T (2wd) and am thinking about a Yeti for my next car.

I have definitely seen a jacked up Morris Minor somewhere before!

I would say this is the spiritual predecessor to the Yeti: remember these :)

Only 2wd - hence my earlier post !

The official predecessor for me was the X-Trail. It had some of the 4x4 features found on my Yeti but was somewhat clumsy compared.

My spiritual predecessors must be my brace of home made TVRs, a 3.0 Tuscan and a 2500 M. In the days when Martin Lilley ran the show. They were brute force and ignorance personified. BUT what other car could be repaired, after a shunt, by having a new bit of chassis welded on to the old bit? Had to ditch them after the family arrived - soooo sad!

Yes but most of these soft roaders are only 2wd but made to look rugged. Thought I'd add the picture!

Would probably find driving an Octavia I 4x4 again agricultural in comparison to the Yeti; just fond memories of what in it's day was a very fine if underrated car. Although I did prefer the smooth petrol engine to the diesel both PD and CR. Unfortunately not a financially viable option these days, particularly as there is very little price difference between the 1.8TSI and the 140TDI in purchase cost.

If I could justify running a TSI then yes the true successor to the Turbo 4x4 but the 140TDI CR comes pretty close, more so than the 140 PD I had in the Golf 4motion.

TP

Agree with the Rancho and how about the Honda HRV, it ticks all the boxes, 2 wheel drive 4x4 looks.

Thanks, the old 1.8T was a silky smooth engine and I'm sure the new TSI version is even better.

Not in the same spirit, but I have always thought that the Yeti looks a lot like the Honda HR-V from the side. And it came in 4WD versions too, as far as I recall.

Some of you may remember that in the 80's Channel 4 ran a programme about the "AFRICAR". A car made of plywood that was going to revolutionalise third world transport.
