600 miles with my 1.2 DSG

Featured Replies

Just thought I'd share the first 600 miles of DSG ownership. During this time it has been mostly used for commuting to work, this is about a 50 mile round trip which takes in local A roads, 12 miles of motorway and city motoring so a good mix. The fuel consumption according to maxidot is 34 mpg but this is a new engine so I am not too worried and I must admit to investigating the kickdown, sport mode etc. never having driven an auto before. First the auto box, this I've found mostly smooth with often un-noticable gear changes, it does however hesitate when accelerating from light throttle openings such as on long urban streets. This could however be down to my coming from a diesel. The handling is very good from my point of view but then I am no boy racer but it does inspire confidence on the best bits of my commute, the gearbox also seems spot on in these more enthusiastic moments. On the motorway the car feels slower than it is, probably due to being so quiet its easy to go quite fast without realising it, similarly the accelleration seems unhurried despite feeling yourself sink into the seat. There have been no problems with it - much as expected however the kids are a bit disappointed that the rear seats aren't heated like the front ones. All in all a wonderful beast that all the family like despite SWMBO calling it a "blue box" . I washed it yesterday as it had been covered with volcanic ash since I had it and it looked really lovely so I wasn't at all surprised when we had our first rain for 3 weeks last night, ah well.

Because of the volcanic dust/ash I was waiting for it to rain before I washed it. It rained last night and this morning and it was still coming down, albeit gently, when I was putting the shampoo on.

Best way in my opinion.

The Yeti still looks better now that it's washed even after the rain, don't seem to have any dust in it down here, mine was covered in dust when I had it. Thing is SWMBO blames me washing it for the drizzle and rain we've had.
