hi,this is my first post so here goes.

im looking into getting a vrs very soon but ive done 2 insurance quotes on 2 different y reg cars and they both come back as either a SKODA OCTAVIA 2000-2004 Diesel 1.9L Manual 5 doors AMBIENTE TDI Estate or a SKODA OCTAVIA 2000-2004 Diesel 1.9L Manual 5 doors AMBIENTE TDI .

now we know that they are both vrs's,1 of which is local to us at a dealers and we have a copy of the log book, this dealer has said that its a error dvla's end but we have found another one now.

has anyone else had a problem in the past with this?

Put the reg numbers up on here and see if they are known on the forum, they may be cars that have belonged to forum members in the past?

Hi , mines on a Y plate and ive never had any problems like this . strange

This is quiet common, and its because the details on the V5C are incorrect, I too had a 2001 Y reg TDi Ambiente that run on petrol and it required sending the V5C back to the DVLA with a covering letter to get it corrected. Online insurance quotes do a fuzzy search based on the vehicle description, so if the DVLA have this wrong then the quotes you get are also wrong. Eassiest way to get a quote is to not put the reg number in, but enter the details of car make/model/year manually.

You will be suprised how inaccurate the DVLA database is, even my current superb had the details wrong which I got corrected.

yes this is what were doing but if we wont to take the insurance up then the car description is incorrect.

the car on the island(where i live) is being sorted out with dvla and they have said its their probelm but they are having to wait for skoda to get back to prove it to them.

i have now found a different vrs now on a 2002 plate and insurance is correct.

The owner can sort it themselves, I did on both cars. Just write to the DVLA enclosing the V5C with amendments and a covering letter explaining that the VIN is correct, the colour is correct and that the description is wrong, also send a scan of the car data sticker from the server book, and its sorted. Both times I got the amended V5C back from the DVLA in less than 1 week.

thanks for that info.well hopefully i will be having a look and maybe buying one from derbyshire on a 02 plate and the insurance is correct, going to ring adrian flux tomorrow as i hear good things on here about them.

derbyshire is a bit of a road trip for me tho.

Strange if you enter both the numbers above into Eurocarparts webpage, they both come back as vRS's with correct engine code etc. They must get their info from the DVLA database, very strange.

also send a scan of the car data sticker from the server book, and its sorted.

where server book = service book (just incase there is any confusion!)
