Intercooler Pipe Secure fitment?

Featured Replies

Fabia VRS - After having a long patient wait I finally figured out that the whistling noise is due to a Boost leak, the top intercooler hose had play because of the badly designed C Clips, the seals on the pipes are fine.

There was no smoke/or hestitation on pick up, just a lack of boost.

After reconnecting the top intercooler hose and had a test drive it drove so much better on full boost I thaught finally I have fixed it, only to realise after 10 mins of some fun driving the boost pipe has come loose again.

Now I know many of you on here will advise to go and simply get a new boost pipe, I think its a waste of money because it will only happen again in time to due to the bad design? I re-fitted the pipe securely but theres still some play after another drive, and there are no rips so I dont understand why it kept blowing off.

Having a look at all the pipes there seems to be a small gap in all of the pipes.

For a quick fix to close off the gaps in the pipesI re-fitted the pipes closing the gap and put a cable tie through the C Clamp and tighted the pipe up, because I only had 1 cable tie I had to leave it for today.

My question is are any of you running metal pipes using silicone tubes to connect the pipes on the standard intercooler? if so where could I buy it from.

Hope im making sense :giggle: but I definatley have figured out where the boost is leaking .

I beleive their is a aftermarket pipe kit. Check the awesome threads.

it is the rattling & play that causes the aluminium lugs to wear on the Vag Boost Hoses.

If you purchase a new hose & then secure with cable tie's either side of the joint & then loop 3 cable ties through to pull tight, It will never fail again ;)

Well at least for many years :D

There are many threads on here about the cable tie Jobbie ..

Thank you for the responses, I had a look at places like

http://www.ruderacing.co.uk

http://www.epikperformance.co.uk

http://www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk

http://ebay.co.uk

All seem a little overpriced considering its only rubber hoses, my car is standard so I will stick with the cable tie trick for now. :giggle:

May be cheaper to get the pipes custom made from some kind of DIY store/pipe place.

Out of curiousity the remapped cars what are you doing to stop your pipes from blowing off because more boost = loose pipes? maybe not but please give some responses if you are becauseI am considering a remap in a few months..

On Previous Vag Cars that have been remapped, i have cable tied all the Boost Hose's Joints for extra security & had no issue's

Mine blew the pipe apart =( No amount of cable ties would hold it together

Your temporary best friend would be duct tape :giggle: in that unfortunate situation

My lower pipe blew today.... A meter of duck tape later and we're flying again. Ordered new one mind :dull:

New pipe & Cable tie mod = Win

Matt

the lower pipe blew on mine taking a small plastic clip with it - used 2 jubilee clips and some metal cable ties (from Halfords - abour £4.99 for 5)to pull them together. Hasn't moved since and had rolling road done with no sign of boost leak

- total cost about £10 but a bit of a struggle to fit beacause of the location - top link shoild be easier

having said I've ordered a new pipe the firm now say they have no stock.

Now I'm struggling like mad to find one.

Trying to avoid the stealers, anyone help ?

lower pipe 90 degree, nearest the intercooler

I live in hope.

How did you repair the rubber Max.

Best bet for lower pipe is whack 4 screws through it at 90 degrees mines not budged a inch since

Good scheme I'll give that a go ,got some small grub screws in the shed

Nice one mate

the rubber was ok as the pipe just blew fron the intercooler housing so all was still intact except the C clip and part of the plastic housing. The RAC used a C clip that was too big as a temporary fix and I used that to help sercure the jubilee clips

I put a thin pilot hole through then screwed my bigger screw in. Then siliconed over the screw heads
