Cost to repair rear washer

Featured Replies

Any idea how much I could expect to pay to repair a broken rear windscreen washer? The wiper works fine but washer makes a noise liuke pump is working, but no water fed through. A local garage tells me that it is a pain in the arse to fix, as you have to remove roof lining and its a long job. Anybody have any experience of this? Or even an alternative solution?

Cheers!

A pretty common fault sadly, seems to effect other car brands too.

There's 3 places where the hose breaks, by the bulkhead/firewall, inside the passenger side wheel arch (just inside the liner) or somewhere in the roof. If it's either of the first two, you'll see water leaking out of the engine bay when the washer is pressed.

If you search for the issue, it should throw up lots of results, but having never had the hatchback, I dunno where the other place is.

Hi

Very easy to fix, usually it is the pipe that has come off the spigot on the motor, poss a bit fiddly to refit the plastic tailgate cover

Open the tailgate, put fingers round the edge of the plastic trim, and give a huge yank (held on by about 20 clips) some one helping would be good,

then look at the motor and you should see a black pipe, which is poss come adrift from the spigot, just push it back on and its sorted, then line

up the clips to the holes and push back on

Radiotwo

The rear washer does not travel across the roof lining, it travels down the passenger side interior. As mentioned above, is 4 spots it can pop off... easiest being the bulkhead one :) All can be checked easily by yourself!

Easiest ways to find which one is to look for wet patches or water. Use the pump, you'll either get a wet boot, a wet rear passenger footwell, water squirting out a cable by the bulkhead (under the bonnet) or water squirting by the passenger wheel arch.

yeah your garage is full of poo.

very common for the links in the pipework to pop apart at the places mentioned.

if the mechanism is corroded andf broken inside you'll find that the washer starts rotating in sync with the wiper arm.

Theres a repair kit available from VW thats about 30 quid - was a doddle to fix mine and replaces the corrodable metal bit with plastic parts so it doesn;t happen again

I had this issue to, and fixed it with the same kit :) I have photos of it somewhere on here, but its more than likely just a pipe thats popped off

Sorry to hijack the thread, but mine leaks from literally bang centre of the car!? I need ramps to inspect fully, but find it odd...

Excellent response. Cheers for that. Will investigate those places...
