New tyres >:(

Featured Replies

Hello,

I found a screw in the near new rear (cheapo tyre), pulled it out and pssshhhh........ :dull: . Now I have dilemma of either going to kwik fit to get a replacement "arrowspeed" or replace the other new cheapo rear as well for some decent tyres.

If the current one is fixable I'll fix it but if not I'll prob get both changed, but would want to buy 2 tyres soon anyway as the fronts are going soon.

Camskill doing Pirelli p zeros, avon zz3 or toyo t1r's for around £66 each.. Any other places/tyres people may recommend? Im based in Surrey so locals would be good too, heard Martin's Tyres was good place unfortunately they don't do a wide range of "weird size tyres", lol official quote from them... :wonder:

If the screw was not in the sidewall ,it can be repaired <they pull a special shaped piece of rubber through from the inside >

If the screw is not too far from the edge of the tyre, then it can normally be repaired. I think there is a gauge on Event Tyres website.

If you want new ones, there are plenty of threads about what to get in this section, so use the search button. Toyo Proxis T1-Rs and Goodyear F1 GSD3 are the most popular, some people like Uniroyal Rainsports, and Kumho, or Falken are other cheap brands.

Thanks, I had a look at event tyres but cant seem to find the gauge, the screw was 1-2cm off the side so hence im little pessimistic. I've checked the search previously as my fronts are on its way out but results didnt really give any prices/places to get them from (besides camskill). Was hoping some may have bought tyres recently and can point me in a good direction  . I did find however a few on here didnt like the kumho KU31's? A friend of mine says it worked well on his car so I assume is a diff car thing. Also the t1r's in the wet, the grip is a little.. interesting sometimes.. so little unsure about them.

What is your spare like?

If it's decent, and your punctured tyre can't be repaired I'd buy one of whatever your spare is and hey presto, two new tyres use your other part worn cheapo as the spare.

if you decide to look for two new tyres then try http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/ I've always found them really good on price, and fitting is a breeze. you just print out the receipt and visit the nearest garage they use.

Hope this helps!!

Suppose thats an idea, I do have brand spanking new tyre on the spare, but they're the bridgestone er300's which will be around £90+fitting I'd imagine.. :dull: I'll ring locals up tomorrow to see. Thanks.

Choices atm its £100 for 1 bridgestone tyre or £160 for 2 avon/toyo/pirelli.. gah, burden of choice..

Bezzy: Thanks for the link above :)

Your kept in contact with the road with 4 pieces of rubber about 9 inches by 3 inches. IMHO I don't think it's worth skimping on tyres. And it seems silly to have a perfectly good Bridgestone sitting in the boot and then run cheapo tyres.

How long as the bridgestone been your spare? Since new? Tyres won't last forever, even unused they'll eventually crack and perish. IIRC I read 4 years as a shelf life, but I may be wrong.

My recommendation. Good choice. Great value. Very efficient.

I run KU31's all round, and have been very impressed for the price, approx £55 per corner inc delivery from camskill tyres although they appear to be out of stock (and you would need to get them fitted at a local garage (£5-£10 per corner).

Very happy with them, and Skoda seem to run kumho's on the Rally Ireland winner...

Sorry, I was wrong, it is eTyres not Event Tyres.

Here is the gauge you want. eTyres - Free Repairable Area Tread Gauge

Grr.. came to £125 for bridgestone and changing spare over :dull: tyre was not repairable..

Thanks for the input and links guys, will be using them in a couple of months  fronts are on its way out. If there was a sticky re: recommended tyres, it'll be good.
