Service due in 1000 miles

Featured Replies

hi there. Strange really, but my car was long-life serviced by skoda 4000 miles ago and last night I got the service due in 1k message. :wonder:

I was told that when they changed the ATF a couple of weeks ago they had to plug in their computer and set oil (auto box) level... I guess due to having to be within a certain temperature range or something like that. I wonder if they cocked something up then and the car thinks it needs a service. Any thoughts? I'm thinking of just doing an oil/filter change myself on longlife oil and then giving it a few more thou miles while putting up with the service due message then taking it to the dealer for the next service and stamp.

Could it be possibly be wanting something other than oil?

Or could the oil genuinely get coked up so quickly? Last service was august 2009 (by skoda) and they used 5w30 VX oil (shell?)

Had they reset it when serviced it last time, because they did that to me. Also even if you make short journeys it shouldn't come on so early ,you can use the resett button-switch off the ignition, press the reset button of the trip counter for ditance driven and hold it down. Switch the ignition on and release the retest button. Now turn the retest button to the right. The service interval displays are reset:thumbup:

Doing this causes the system to revert to fixed servicing intervals. To maintain variable servicing intervals (if you're unwise enough to use them) you need VAGCOM to reset the indicator.

Most dealers reset to fixed intervals to maximise revenue.

I will keep mine on "variable" intervals as this saves me money as I only need to take it to the dealer every 20000 miles, while in the interim I can do my own service with 507 oil at 10k.

Thanks for your responses.

Yeh mine was reset to fixed as well, although I didnt realise at the time. Fat lot of good it has done the dealers though as I can now do a fixed service my self for under £30 :D. One good thing the 2.5 has going for it, dont need ridiculous oil.

I agree. So which oil do you use? I think all turbo engines should be run on fully synthetic because of turbo bearings, and GSF stock some reasonably priced Fuchs for about £20 for 5 litres. But then again 5 litres of 507 spec Quantum can be had for £24.

I use 505 spec TPS recomend for fixed servicing, (they say use the 507 stuff @ £24 for variable) made by Qauntum. Havent had any issues with it last 10k. £9 for 4 litres. I was dubious at first but the same stuff in VAG parts department was like £25.
