Bought some Vanish for carpet/upholstery from the £1 shop :giggle: , let you know the results....................... :S

That money will buy you a Vax carpet / upholstery cleaner if you shop around. That'll give a million times better reults and you can do ya house carpets to boot!

I looked into a steam cleaner before I got my Vax as halfords had a cheapish one in. There's a review on here somewhere and the guy asks about steam cleaners.. then buys it.. then says it's rubbish. Think it's because it doesn't suck any dirt out.

The Vax website was selling them factoy direct for £70 shipped when I got mine.

That offers finished now, but for £80 they've got this heated cleaner on offer! £120 off! It's an upright and not a tub style.. but it looks like it's got a hose and a upholstury tool, but check on my link.

Vax V023 on offer at Vax store online!

Also visit the offers store in general though in case I've missed something or the offers change. Vax Online Offers Shop

Read my thread on the rugdoctor, its only £20 to rent did a great job

I'm interested in this too, as i'm not confident with taking my seat covers off!

Hot water extraction is what you need, a search on ebay will prob bring up something decent (there's a small one for £155 brand new with decent power). Used to work for a company that did upholstery cleaning and had a go on the machines there (albeit more powerful), the results are outstanding.

A vax will probably do a decent enough job, but it's important to use decent chemicals. An enzyme pre-cleaning spray is worthwhile, the enzymes eat away at any protein and this breaks down the staining. For oil or grease you need a solvent based cleaner, POG (Paint, Oil & Grease) is commonly used, just pour some on a cloth and rub the surface of the stain, then extract it off using the machine, repeat until stain wont lift any more. I would then recommend rinsing the seats using no detergent in the machine, the detegents always leave a residue and this just attracts more dirt.

Steam cleaners do an excellent job of cleaning your car's upholstery. The reason being is that the steam goes deep into the layers of your seat and brings up the dirt. You just have to couple this with a powerful vacuum for suctioning out the remaining water and your seats will be like new. Most hot water extraction units already come with powerful vacuums.. so you can check those out..

Vax 6131 is amazing.

Spray your seats with interior shampoo (Autogylm for example) or an all purpose cleaner and water, scrub with an upholstery brush until its all foamy and gets all the crud out, use the Vax with the shampoo in it as well to spray it into the seats to deep clean them and suck out the dirt, water and shampoo leaving the seats spotless!
