Tyre pressure and oil

Featured Replies

Hi – I have just bought a new Skoda Octavia S 1.6 TDI CR Hatchback. I know the tyre pressures are indicated on the inside of the fuel filler cap. But these numbers don't make any sense to me... I'm assuming about 30 is right, but can someone tell me for sure?

And what type of oil does this car need... the handbook mentions engine oil specifications such as VW 505... but oils are normally listed for example as 10/w40 etc

Thanks

I think this may help you on your tyre pressures.

Bar to PSI conversion table

Just don't try & put more than 4 bar in without making a will.... emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I use one of these to do my tyres with.

Oils, try Halfords if you look up the specification, you can then look on the canister of oil or visit a oil manufacturers website.

I've just been to Halfords website, typed in the registration of my car & it told me the appropriate oils.

1.0 bar is 14.5 p.s.i. i.e. 2 bar is 29 p.s.i. Use a calculator to multply bar figs on filler cap and multiply by 14.5 to convert to lb per sq.inch. Mark-up label with permanent marker pen for the figs that are applicable to your size tyres if this helps ( or affix new label with P.S.I figs on drivers 'B' pillar).

Use oil VW spec 507 . This can be used for both fixed or variable service ( 10,000/1yr or change according to computer display indication). ASDA sell 5 Litres of Mobil #1 "esp" 5W-30 VW spec 507 oil for £32. Never use any engine oil unless it has the VW spec number on the container. Always top up oil with car on level surface as the dipstick is very level sensitive
