I agree with Italiastar's comments! AA batteries are particularly important to me: I use rechargeables, but if I'm going away on holiday, and don't want to take chargers or expensive spares, I can resort to normal batteries: you can buy them anywhere.

I've got a Canon Powershot A80, and I'm very pleased with it. This is a 3 megapixel camera, and to be honest, I don't need any more definition than this offers: it's good enough for printing at A4, and my printer doesn't go any bigger than that! The camera also has more than enough settings to keep me happy (I partcularly wanted macro and manual shutter speed/aperture/focus adjustments, which this has).

Also, I've found Compact Flash memory cards to be very robust, and very cheap.

i bought one from aj electronics on the web for 185 quid including postage, does go through batteries.
