Writing on Keys

Featured Replies

Picked up a new key for my car today that was ordered from a main dealer - the pattern on the blade is completely different to that of my original key and therefore it doesn't fit the lock/ignition.

One thing I have noticed is that my old key says FAB on the blade (on the inside when the key is folded in) and the new one has FACEA written on it in the same place. New one also has HAA on the other side, whereas the old one has nothing.

Could you guys help me out by telling me the year of your car and what is written on the key(s)?

I'm trying to determine if my old key is likely to be an aftermarket replacement from a previous lock change or something. Or whether the keys supplied to dealers are cut somewhere different (almost certain) and they've just done the new one to the wrong pattern.

Any help much appreciated!!

Edit:

Just looked up and both FAB and FACEA are lock type companies based in the Czech Republic - so guessing either one does OEM and the other service, or the supplier was changed at some point.

Mine's a 2002 vRS (MK1 I know), but it too has FAB written on the key.

I have FACEA and HAA on mine.

Guess you will need to look at a lock barrel to check the code you think you have is the code the barrels have.

Hmmm.... Wonder if the supplier has been changed and key patterns have been lost during transition. :wonder:

2009 build, 2010 registration, HAA on one side and VB7 on the other

I had the sme problem with the key blade for my 54 plate. I have FAB written on the blade of the old key but when I ordered a new one it arrived with a HAA blade which did not fit the lock after the key was cut. The key blades are a slightly different shape. I found this company on the internet in Kent, Express Keys at this web address www.keysinthepost.com. They match, cut and send you a new blade for your key for £10, from a photo of your old key. I found the service excellent.
