Micra 1.2 SE

Featured Replies

Well my wife picked up her new Micra yesterday afternoon. I have not had much of a chance to drive it but did get to be passenger as she drove it about last night. Nice wee car I have to say. Not really a super mini/city car fan myself, but the Micra is certainly a nicer environment than the Fabia. The Furby has been out since 2000, I wonder when a new mark will be developed to replace this now rather spartan and dated version. The Furby dash has much more in common with the old Octy than with the new.

It is pretty good inside the Micra: I was impressed with the look they've achieved with pretty cheap materials. The build isn't bad, either (expect the left-hand end of the dash to pop up in about a week though, and stay there!).

It's fairly comfortable, and well equipped. But it's definitely a bird's car! And it's a bit cramped for me: I prefer the extra legroom, and longer seats, that the Fabia offers.

Look it was the wife wanted the bloody thing. After 6 months of himming and hamming and complaining about the lack of 'features' in the Octy LX and the heavy fuel bills, I was just glad she had decided on a car. To be honest I would even have bought her a Citreon just to get it over with if that is what she liked (and god but do I think all citreons, renaults and peugeots are crap (see a theme there)).

 "nipple"...

I meant it, it is a nice car. Wind ya neck in ...... :D

Just wanted to make sure no one thought that this girly car would have been my choice! If I had been choosing a supermini it would have been the latest Ibiza, as it is bigger, has VW mechanicals and is in a more modern package than the aging Fabia.

Aren't Renault and Nissan the same company now?

That is like saying Audi and Skoda are the same company, only less so as there is far less in common as yet.

The styling put me off the Ibiza. It looks like Edna Everage from the front.

I didn't like the interior, either. It makes the Fabia dash look exciting!

Good point :-)

LMFAO, theres no way the interior is as good on a Micra than a Fabia. Having sat in the new one for extended periods and owned two older ones, I can say this with some authority. Everything looks fisher price, and trust me when I say, it WILL rattle like a bag of nails after you've had it a couple of years.

As for the Ibiza interior being better, again, LMFAO.

Another excellent anti-fabia post from william. Well done

I didn't say the Micra was better built than the Fabia. The Fabia must have just about the most boring dash board in the histroy of recent cars however. Its equipment levels are also very poor. I think it ia good car mechanically that is in dire need of a revamp to keep pace with newer rivals such as the Ibiza and Micra.

So tell me, what does the Ibiza have equipment wise that the Fabia doesnt?

I looked at an Ibiza TDI Sport when I was looking and the dash was even more boring than the Fabias. They didnt even give you sporty dials!!!

I guess though that if being plain black instead of the horrible, garish colours many modern cars use these days is boring, then I guess its guilty as charged.

Personally, I thought the inside of the new Micra, while spacious enough, was pretty dreary as well. I liked the interior of my old one better than the new one, even though it could be accused of being garish.

You do not get sporty dials in the Furby 1.2 6V Classic, which was the Skoda that we compared with the Micra. There was also a long list of other things you do get in the micra that you do not in the Furby classic. Again the more basic Ibiza is rather more stylish than the Furby Classic.

You didnt even get sport dials in the Ibiza TDI Sport though, no sporty seats, no drilled pedals, no decorative door sills, no sporty mats, no painted calipers, or sportier bumpers. OK, so you did get a slightly better AC system in it. Oh, and it cost TWO GRAND MORE than the vRS.

I'm surprised the Micra is better equipped to be honest. Micras in the past have always had appalling amounts of kit for the price, so something must have radically changed. In my old 1.0 Micra, they didnt even give you a ciggie lighter. Even in my range topping Sport+ there was no ABS, no air conditioning, no trip computer, still no fag lighter, the suspension and brakes were the same as a 1.0 (hence some VERY scary moments trying to stop), and it appeared to be a car very much made to a price. As it happens I paid 7 grand for that one with virtually no miles on the clock, but it was 10k RRP and was only worth about 8k.

The Micra SE is really well equippred. Huge trip computer (with a reminder for birthdays!), keyless entry, keyless ignition, AC, alloys, sun roof, moving rear seat, electric windows and mirrors, ABS, part leather seats, CD player...there's not much that competes with it for the price.

But I still feel a bit 'fruity' driving one: it's just not a car for boys. And it is a bit cramped.

The Micra SE I bought was heavily discounted and came with AC, all round airbags and a CD player and electric windows and remote central locking. The slightly more expensive and less well engined Furby Calssic, basically comes with nothing. I don't even own any cassettes to put in its stereo.

Its clearly a LOT better equipped than my Sport+ was then... hmmmmph!!!

The new Micras have loads of toys for the money...bit like having a mini-Lexus... :D
