VAG 2.0 TDI development........

Featured Replies

The German Auto Bild Allrad magazine has an article about the new Passat planned for later this year. It mentions a future 2.0 litre TDI engine with Two turbochargers and 220 HP. It does not look like it will be available right away, but sometime later. It also appears that it will be with DSG only!

Intersting that the 2.0 TDi apparently is already designed for more power than currently offered in Skoda vehicles.

The CR170 standard is good for 200BHP, so I guess to get the extra 20BHP they would add a bigger main turbo charger. Then to reduce the lag of the larger turbo they put a smaller one on to get the car going at lower RPM before the larger turbo takes over.

That will be a really nice engine/gearbox system to have in the Superb. I think 170CR is enough for the Yeti already!

170 with DSG would be just fine for the Yeti. If the Superb can have it, why not Yeti?

OTOH if the only way I can get DSG with something over 140 then 200+ would do

A factory can't be expected to make every possible option from day one. They get phased in over time as the factory "settlles in" and iron out the problems in building just a base car. Then they start to add more complexity and more engine/gearbox options. I remember in the old days when a new car came out you could only get them in like a few solid colours for the first few months until they bring in the other (metallic) paint options. At least we have choice there at the moment. Imagine if we all had to choose between only white and red?!!!

Scarlet, my red Yeti is most offended by that :( :'(

I meant that near all Yetis would then have been white or red!!! Not that there is anything wrong with either colour! emoticon-0140-rofl.gif Your red would have been pretty boring if 80% of Yetis you saw were red!

The Twin Turbo TDI has been rumoured for a long while now, especially as Mercedes and BMW have them.

The engine was actually very quietly launched at the turn of the year in the VW T5, producing 180 HP and 400 NM.

Assuming it was tuned for that application to optimise lower end torque, I guess 220 HP and 450+ NM is easy enough.

Not sure why Audi didn't press ahead unless it is true that customers in that segment prefer 6 cylinders, something Mercedes found out when the old model E280 CDi was replaced by the 4 cylinder E250 CDi, now they have brought out an E300 CDi, though not in the UK.

For cars in the Passat / Octavia / Superb Class, the Twin Turbo 2.0 sounds ideal.

Stewart.

I totally agree. By the time this gets down to Skoda, they will have sorted it all out and we can just enjoy. In the meantime, enjoy the durability already designed into the 2.0 TDI.

Releasing lead foot now....................
