How do i know if these brakes are any good?

Featured Replies

They look OK on the surface but then I read

MTEC are the longest established supplier of sports brake discs on eBay UK

I can't comment as never heard of them myself, but that doesn't mean they are bad. Might be worth looking at known brands?

You don't. Were they machined and then heat treated or heat treated and then machined?

Cross-drilling isn't a cooling technique; it's basically anti-fade (and works the same was as grooving does). It also reduces the mass of the discs, and hence their heat capacity. It has also been implicated in cracking, due to the stress raisers that the drill holes introduce. Hence the importance of machining first; that way the stress raisers are relieved by the heat treatment. (and yes I did study metallurgy a bit)

So would they be worse than the standerd ones ive got on at the moment?

Are the mintex non grooved or drilled disks better than the standerd? im not going on tracks just had a remap and would like to stop a bit faster!!!

I Agree with the Drilled = Crack = Bad

If you feel your breaks are getting too warm and are not working to there full potential you may want to Bleed the system (new fluid) look at what pads are being used, as the setup on most road going cars are suitable to road use, and mabie look at your brakeing practice. you can get 'Track use' Pads which will need a higher temp to work (i dont like this idear for road use)

Do people Recomend Groved/Dimpled Discs?

Want to steer clear of drilled.

discs

forget them crossed/drilled things...of cosmetic value only....if you want better brakes convert to 312's

Mintex all the way

i'm with ken'o on this... i hate seeing cross-drilled discs on road cars.. still with fresh images in my mind of what happens when one shatters..

those fast road pads will drive you insane as well with the added noise
