What I want is almost immaterial. I am ex-Department of Transport and investigated fatalities involving aftermarket products and that is a large part of my opposition to aftermarket tuning. Then working with another government department I did a BSc (2-1 Hons) majoring in thermo-dynamics. I also worked with one of “tuning houses” for one of my work placements on one of my degree courses.

We had this sort of clamp down on tuning parts with motorcycles a few years ago (enforced by the UK police) and I expect by a combination of EU legislation and enforcement and the fact that the manufacturers will provide all the on road performance you could possibly want “of the shelf”, then the aftermarket tuning industry will be forced to change to a “track only” mods. It is the way things are headed inexorably.

What a complete bore !!!!!

Ministry , Vosa , DOT who cares . Individuals have a right to mod their own vehicles as long as they inform there insurance companies . I would like to see how a remap adds to the govenments KSI (Killed Serious Injured) figures .

Please get in the real world as your talking complete nonsense and scaremongering . I have examined numerous vehicles in my proffesion and have never come accross a Road traffic collision let alone a fatality involving aftermarket products certainly not a performance remap .

Most accidents are caused by driver error sometimes caused by drink or drugs or a combination of both and very occasionally dangerous parts ie tyres devoid of tread etc .

I also ride a motorcycle with nearly 200bhp at the rear wheel which can be used on the track or road . I suppose you would have that banned aswell !!

Enjoy your life and let others enjoy theirs to .

Exactly. Money for old rope!

Sorry to be boring. The accident investigation report that stated that by deviating from manufacturer’s specification is partly a cause for the accident as all components, brakes, engine, suspension are designed and rated in relation to each other and significantly altering one will make another component deficient.

Impressed with your quoted hp figures. My MC has 100 engine hp, roughly 85 back wheel and does 11.5 standing quarters. Hayabusa has 194 engine hp and does 10.2 quarter miles. I’ve worked on IoM winning Senior bikes with less hp!

Sorry to be a pain, but can someone tell me (I've googled without success) what % of accidents has been directly attributed to deviation from manufacturer's specification? It seems pretty fundamental to the argument.

I would make remapping illegal if I had my way, also changing exhausts and all other such modification illegal and this is the way the EU actually seems to be heading. It is not a personal attack and please do not take it as such. We are now in a world where emissions are becoming increasingly important and I have to breath the air so I would not want people tickering with the engine settings that these brilliant engineers have arrived at. I hope you and others can respect this position. I use to work on a rolling road, tune cars and motorcycles but those days of tinkering with these highly complex and developed machines is overdue and should be outlawed in my humble opinion. If people want a quicker car then I believe people should trade in for one biult at the factory to that spec and that is best for emmissions, road safety etc.

Sorry if this offens but GET A LIFE!! people have got the right to mod there cars how they want so long as they inform there insurers. Ive been as you state tinkering with car and bike engines, suspension set -ups etc all my life with no probs. Also people like Revo and shark performance and bluefin etc spend thousands of pounds on developing these programs to get the optimum performance and emmisions out of these modern engines. I personaly mot'd shark performances octavia vrs a while ago and guess what it was actually cleaner than a standard octavia. You state that you used to work on a rolling road so i presume you understand how a engine straight from the manufacture can be made more efficient and more powerfull.

Yes why not. Good idea.

Sounds good to me as well, i think it would be a good adition to this forum.
