I've been stupid..

Featured Replies

Hello all,

After removing my headlight unit (driver's side, RHD Octavia 2 - non-xenon) to replace the sidelight/parking lamp and in true bull-at-a-gate style started undoing the wrong thing (I was in a hurry & I'm stupid  ) the headlight aim in now low on the RH side.

The bit I began to unscrew is the black block seen in Andy2407's excellent bulb replacement guide - PHOTO 13, appropriately-enough - with the two torx screws in it.

The beam does seem to flicker a bit when you blip the throttle at idle suggesting that something's not fastened properly although the black thingy (sorry, no idea what it's for) is tight, perhaps it isn't correctly seated?

Anyway, if anybody can enlighten me (no pun intened, honestly) as to how to fix this I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks in advance,

Dave :)

Silly question, but is all the plugs on the back of the headlight connected? If its a flicker, could be a bad earth?

Dont know if this will help, but it might be worth checking :)

Hiya, thanks for the prompt reply  yes, all connections are solid - sorry, should have mentioned that in the original post.

The word 'flicker' might be a bit misleading too as the bulb is permanently alight - it's more that the sharp cut-off of the beam is wobbling up & down ever so slighly as you rev the engine & this is what leads me to think that something isn't bolted down properly..

Cheers,

Dave.

It might be worth checking that the bulb is correctly located and "clipped" in ??

I would suggest starting again from scratch (following the guide) and being a little less bull like !?

I had similar after replacing bulbs, it turned out that i hadnt located the headlight unit back in properly it was sitting on top of the mechanism underneath, if you compare the two headlights one will probably be a few millimeters higher than the other

just take the unit out again and refit, sorted mine

:smirk:

Thanks for the suggestions - all greatly appreciated.

I'm going to hoy the lamp out again and try to (carefully) re-seat it. Hopefully that'll do the trick :)

Yours, cack-handedly..

David
