Sheared Pulley Bolt

Featured Replies

The wife has a '53 plate 1.2 Fabia. There is a pulley next to the auxiliary tensioner pulley - just appears to be a guide pulley. The bolt securing it had sheared - throwing the belt off, thankfully no further damage. Has anyone else had the same issue?

Unfortunately sorting it out involves taking off the sump, timing cover and then hoping that removing the remainder of the bolt doesn't stop short of burning the car.

Cheers

Sounds like someone did not fix it right when the aux belt might of got changed Might of forgot to tighten the bolts up

Hope you get it fixed :)

It's often the case that a overtightened bolt will shear when a load is applied as the bolt is already overstressed because of the overtightening. This why tightening to the correct torque is so important

Thanks for the replies - got the sump off and timing case off (eventually). Wasted over an hr - forgot 1 bloody bolt - trying to wiggle it off, then found the bolt and just came off. Thankfully - the remnant of the bolt just tapped out. Downside is - in all the sheer frustration of the matter, snapped the connector that goes on the fuel distribution pipe. So another part to get and at £45 I can live with it. Hopefully have the timing case buttoned up today and sump back on along with the pulley, etc. Then fuel pipe arrives tomorrow.

Anyone know what torque the pulley bolt should be? Or will it be in the Haynes manual - to be honest haven't looked in it for the torque values.
