Was wondering how many miles folks have achieved on the variable servicing? Mines is at 16k and is now a year and a half old.

Had just over 18K out of my last car, hoping for similar in this :)

18.5k (approx) is the limit anyway.

What is it telling you about when the service is due?

I have a second hand PD vRS picked up on 13th March 2010.

From the service book the first service was at 16,050 miles (when the car was about 2 years old)

When I bought the car at 24,737miles they said it had just been serviced but after I picked it up I realised there was no entry in the service book for a recent service so I took the book in and the man on the service desk checked on the computer and entered a service at 24,737 for the day before I picked it up. .

The total mileage is now 28,570 (so I've done 3833 miles in it) and it is saying that the next service is due in 3700 miles (this would be at 7533 miles since the last one) or 277 days (I'm sure it will hit the mileage before 277 days are up - more likely in about 50 days) . This would be when the total is at about 32,200 miles

Seems a bit fishy to me. I wonder if it was actually serviced at all before I collected it (or whether it was just an extra basic oil change service because it was being sold to me and not because the variable service required it). So the servcie it is telling me is due in 3700 miles may actually be its second variable servicing service.

Any thoughts?

Could it be that your Service indicator wasn't reset ? Had a similiar issue with mine.

If in doubt get the service done, because it will cost you a lot if you run dirty oil.

Mk 1 Octy TDi was around 23K

Superb was around 18K

At 18 Months I would have a service anyway

Total Mileage 28570 + 3700 gives 32270

First service at 16050 would mean second probably on another 16000 which is 32050, virtually the same figure.

I think its safe to assume it wasnt reset or it wasnt serviced. If it were me I would get the dealer to zero it now, do oil & filter at 32K (in case it wasnt serviced) & then service it fully at 40737 (24737 + 16000) The figure it should have been if reset
