I am changing me n/s driveshaft at the weekend as the inner joint has a bit of play in it ,and have been making sure I have all the tools to do the job.I have looked at the six bolts holding the inner driveshaft to the gearbox ,and the bolts look like they are splined inside. Do I need a special tool to remove these, and if so , is it a dealer part? Any help much appreciated as I dont want to strip it down only to find I have the wrong tool.It is on a 2002 octy tdi.(90). They are M8 or M10 (depending on gearbox, vrs are M10) spline bolts. You can buy bits as sets or maybe singularly from the likes of machine mart, see here

I've not seen these in halfords, but they could be available on line!

yes 8mm multi spline or 12 point halfords should stock the socket needed and you can get a 3ft long one so that it pokes out thru the wheel arch to make it easier too
