Rear brake discs not worn evenly

Featured Replies

Had a look at my rear disks and my pads and disk need changing, but what i did notice is that the pads are not using the whole disk. There is an quite an area where the pads seem to be too small and leaving a lot of the outer rim untouched. The fronts are using the whole disk no probs. Can any one help.

If they are Oem pads and disc yes then it just lip on the disc. Its normal. Just worn disc

How big is the lip on the disc if it is bad it will fail MOT. My one did just changed the pad and disc :)

As member 'Skoda_Vrs' I concur, this is quite normal, for the outer first inch of disc.

For some reason pads do not use full diameter of rear brake disc, as the front brakes do.

Some members upgrade their rear caliper disc size and did wonder if problem was still present??

It's a sign of the pads sticking in the carrier, that's why it makes sense to have them removed occasionally, cleaned up and some anti seize grease applied to the surfaces where they slide within the carrier.
