Roof bars - missing key - I need to vent my spleen!

Featured Replies

I need somewhere to rant...When I ordered my yeti, part of the deal was the ex demo roof bars from the display yeti. On collecting my yeti, the dealer informed me that they had misplaced the keys to the roof bars but they would order me a new set asap and forward them in the post - so I left with the bars (which cannot be fitted without keys). That was 2 weeks ago. I've been emailing and calling the dealer and either get ignored or told they will look into it. They also did not give me the receipt/invoice for the yeti on the day that I paid/picked it up and again promised to forward in the post. Getting them to address the issues is like getting blood from a stone - very frustrating as they seemed so sincere and helpful when I purchased the car...I was ready to sing their praises to the world! Anyone else had these kind of after-sale problems? It's a real shame as I feel it's damaging the Skoda brand/image of reliability and quality.

you're not saying that the lovely Weimaraner was to be strapped to the roof, are you????

Ha. I buy and sell 60s furniture so I need the bars for all those retro sofas! I may have to send my lovely Weimaraner to the Skoda showroom to retrieve my bloomin' keys!

If the roofbars have a number etched into the end of the barrel, then they could be made by Thule for Skoda. Give Halfords a ring and they can supply new ones for about £15.

Worth a try.

Brian.

Hi Brian. Thanks for that. I'm just reluctant to pay amything for the keys out of principle as it's out of line as was promised by the dealer...

I think that you need to name and shame that dealer RG...... Maybe someone on here will know somebody from there and get things moving.

Have a moan to Skoda UK about them as well; I have known Toyota dealers lose franchises after a few customer complaints.

Hmmm. I might just have to do that if I haven't had any joy with them by the end of the week...

I had precisely the same problem as you describe with my ex demo. Dealer fiddled about for days and has still not actually produced a key!

The chap selling these keys on Ebay is a fellow Skoda owner and was extremely helpful. Simply quote the number on the chrome lock face and he will send a proper key within a couple of days.

BUT you will still need to remove the foot of the bars by removing the 8 allen bolts from the inside faces of the roof rails. You'll need a small step ladder and carefully protect the paintwork with a cloth.

Big plus will be a tremendous reduction in wind noise and I reckon a hefty improvement in fuel economy without the cross bars.

Worth the saving in hassle for a cost of £6.50 delivered to your door. I'm going to knock the £6.50 off the amount I pay for my next service B)

That's really helpful. Thanks for that. Don't you think it's outrageous that we can spend over 14k or a car and the dealer cannot fulfill their promise of sending a £7 key? I'm really disappointed with them. I didn't go to my most local dealer as I thought the guys at Letchworth seemed so genuine and helpful. It was out of my way to buy from them but I thought they deserved the business...

Well....I eventually rang Skoda UK with my niggles...They immediately called my dealer who rang me back within the hour! Miracle! Anyhow, rather than speak to the original sales guy (who NEVER returns my calls/emails), the after-sales service manager rang me. What a delight! He was apologetic and extremely helpful. He ordered me a brand new set of roof bars (as we discovered that the sales guy not only failed to supply me with keys, but the bolt fixings also!) and fitted them for me as soon as they arrived (3 days later). Excellent guy :smirk:

Skoda are still battling their 1970's rep, so I thought they would jump on a dealer who was not doing his job.

Glad you are sorted.

I wonder if people find any difference between "old" Skoda dealers and "new" Skoda dealers, e.g. the ones who sold the classic skodas from the early and prior VW days.

I cannot speak highly enough of Simpsons of Colne where my Yeti and earlier Roomster came from but had poor experiences with two Fabias from another local dealer. Both "new" dealers.

In times gone by I ran two Felicias and even earlier a 120 and dealt with a company called UHT in Preston who were simply great but who ceased trading, allegedly because they were not prepared to meet the costs of upgrading premises and IT systems as required by VW/Skoda.

I appreciate this may seem off-topic.
