It looks alright to me but I know nothing about ZT reliability, or whether it would be wise to buy a car whose company is now effectively gone :S

Any thoughts?

EDIT: Link now works properly

I don't know much about the reliability of that engine, but there are generally few problems getting hold of parts for Rover/MG cars as most of the original suppliers are still in business

Cheers mate.

Why get rid of the Skoda?!?!? Good car IMHO but friend has the diesel one and has had nothing but probs with it. Gas guzzler too right? Plus the tax....V6 right isn't it?

Sorry but it's a Rover and I think that's enough said!

 Agree with willskoda - Skoda has more street cred and reliability than Rover

I drove an automatic one once for about 40 miles. Found it to be very wallowy car and by no means sporty. Although if you left it in one of the numbers it would pull and pull. Not amazingly quick but sounded quite nice. The head gasket had been done previously though. Although the family who owned the car have a history of owning cars that have had head gaskets changed. I can think of at least 5 cars. I'd stick with a Skoda.

As Simbo has said Mr Bountyful has a ZT....although it isn't the V6 version IIRC... :giggle: Has the V8 version but I'm sure he would offer his opinion on the rest of the car and his experiences with it, he's a nice guy after all.

Looks ok so I would have a look. This is the general things to look for lifted from the MG/Rover forums.

Cambelt change best left to the experts . Unless you've got the right tools you wont get it done. The cheapest garage i know, is Lates in coventry... £600 quid. These must be done at 90,000 miles or 6 yrs, so if you leave it and its snaps, it's a write off.

Oil fully synthetic 10/40 is advised in the manual.

Suspension springs can snap also. Cost around £80 quid to buy and then there's the cost of labour.

Coolant should be 50:50 OAT

Fit an oil catch tank to prevent oil blockages. There's plenty of threads on that.

My own take is check the springs the later models have upgraded springs which are sound. Look around the last full coil at the tops thats where they go. Other things are rattles in the front doors but there is a thread on them easy fix. And if you buy watch the tracking on the front tyres if you take a heavy hit. Remember they are a big car and you will at best get 28mpg and cars on a 06 plate will be dearer to tax. The cars are fantastic to drive and you will be impressed with the handling and ride, a hard combination to find on a car. Once on the move they are pretty swift beasts. As Tiff said two thirds of a M3 at half the price!!!. Now they are really a steal if you get the right one .

I am now on my third 75/ZT. The first was a 2.5 auto 75 did 77k then it saved my life 80-100 head on this was the best car to get from lands end to john o'groats with magic carpet ride.

Then I ran a ZT CDTi running around 170bhp with mods and ran to 178k no problems until I miss fuel the car. They are reliable so long as you stay away of the 1.8 versions.

Wow, that looked pretty serious :o I hope everyone was OK?

Thanks for all the advice. I'm just thinking this may be my only chance to own a V6 before it all becomes even more ridiculously expensive. It's already going to be pushing it financially but I don't use it for commuting so I can probably take the MPG and tax hit for a couple of years

Now the only stumbling block is how I'm going to persuade SWMBO :smirk:

Try it on a rough road. One of my colleagues had one, and it honestly felt like the workers had forgotten to put the springs in the suspension!

Don't tell us........... and when they looked, they found that they hadn't

Hmmm, they're supposed to be quite a tidy set up ride/handling wise. I guess only a test drive will tell

No, it was just very stiff. Oh and the transport stops had been removed (but I've really heard of cases where this hadn't happened).

It was a joke Ken :giggle:

Oh and the transport stops had been removed (but I've really heard of cases where this hadn't happened).

There was definitely a reported case of someone who bought an MG Maestro Turbo (what a car that was in it's time) who had serious handling issues because the PDI wasn't done to remove them :S

A mate took delivery of his new Scirocco GT about a month ago. Said he liked it but it was a bit skittish, especially under heavy braking.

Guess what... :S

Have to admit, they (ZS180) do go fairly well considering they're essentially a 1995 Honda Civic emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Hmmm, well after a quick chat with SWMBO last night, I may have some way to go to realise my dream :'(

I need to try a dfferent tack than just 'It'll be more comfortable' :smirk:

Can't say on an open forum but the police charged me. It went to court and it was through out when we used the evidence on the photo's supplied by the CPS. The lad lived but but only due to the fantastic efforts of fire crew and the paramedics. As far as I am aware he now helps by giving talks to schools on the dangers present when driving. I wish him all the best.

Steve.
