Featured Replies

Hi,had my superb nearly 2 weeks now.Everything seems fine except that i feel the fuel consumption is really high.Im doing around 100 miles a day around the city and

im putting in £20 diesel at the end of the day.On my display it gives a range of 355 miles for a full tank. Can anyone tell me if that sounds about right?

Its a 140 BHP TDI.

Thanks.

I'm getting around 600 to the tank on Motorway driving. Your Superb will loosen up and improve but be gentle if you want the good numbers to roll around

I have an SE 140 TDI, and have now done 19,000 miles. My overall average mpg is 47 (over the 19,000 miles). I drive in France quite a bit, on the peage at 80mph I get around 48mpg - although last week I drove from Newcastle to Sheffield at 65mph and managed 59 mpg!!!!! Round town I get around 45 mpg....

Which city are we talking about?

It would seem your car is doing around 27 mpg, which if it's a manual is lousy, you should be seeing a low 30 even in traffic, if it's London, all bets are off.

I've 140 DSG Passat now, and I stop start a lot, and I'm seeing 32 on the MFD and actual workings are showing around 36mpg, as you can gather, I'm rather pleased.

I had two Octy estates, both 140pd's. First one gave great fuel consumption (46mpg overall for the 3 years) and went like stink!! I also drove it quite hard without sacrificing too much fuel consumption and economy was great right from the start. My second Octy the engine is noisier and (my wife has now inherited the car) now the car is 2 years old with 16k miles on the clock the consumption struggles to get better than the low 40's. The only blessing is that we tend to be slightly more gentle with the right foot and the tyres are lasting a bit longer!!.

This is not the first time I have heard about poor MPG with the 2.0 tdiPD.

The 2.0 170cr is far better .

My SE 140TDI is 21000 miles old and I get the same sort of figures. At motorway speeds I can get mid 50's, (even occasionally high 50's) indicated but I think my MFD reads about 10% high. strangely enough mpg seems no better if I keep speed down to a true 65 than if I don't !!

I think you either have an issue with the car, or a very heavy right foot or really lousy traffic - maybe a look at how it performs on dual carriageways/motorways may give clues as to which

Hi,

I've got a TDI 170 4x4 Estate - it achieved 52mpg at around 65mph on a run to Manchester, 47mpg back (across the A66 rather than M62) at around 75mph, and today, from near Sunderland, to Newcastle City Centre, Via Gateshead and a couple of other stops achieved 46mpg. - all on the MFD. - it's less than half-full now, and is reading 255 miles to empty.

This is a NEW engine too, so i'm very happy - it was 2 weeks old yesterday and clocked 1,000 miles today.

Hi

I think you all need to go back to the good old PD 1.9 engine, my 1.9 Greenline has averaged 57mpg over the last 6000 miles according to my records of fuel consumed verified by Brim to brim top ups, across a variety of driving - motorway, Town and Country roads.

The MFD overreads by about 10% on the fuel computer, but it's geat when it shows 80mpg average on 25 mile trips home from work!

OK so it's slower than the aforementioned 140/170bhp versions, but it still gets me from A to B in a reasonable time.

My remapped Superb 1.9TDi is averaging 54-55mpg (brim to brim method) driving mainly 75% motorway and 25% A/B roads. The engine is fully loosened having covered almost 44,000 miles. This compares favourably against your Greenline's 57 mpg, however, I have the advantage of more power and torque. With sensible driving, I regularly achieve 700+ miles out of a tank of fuel.

I agree; the MFD overeads by at least 10%.

That said, the new 2.0 CR TDi 140 is actually cleaner and more economical than the 1.9TDI S.

I wonder when Skoda will replace the 1.9TDi with the 1.6TDi, as fitted in Golfs and Passats.

Hi Tru

I also have the 140, got it on 7 May. I've done 500 miles so far. My journey to work is 7 miles, takes 35 minutes so very stop start. According to the MFD I get about 37mpg for that journey. My last car was a 110 bhp Mondeo, that read 38mpg for the same journey. I think once the engine is bedded in I should manage 38-39.

I have a CR170 manual

Best I have had was 62mpg on a 35 mile run to Warrington at 60 mph (yes this was very very dull but I wanted to see what it would do).

I have drive about 14miles every day to work, a combination of 90% A roads and 10% town and get 54mpg

Worst I have had is about 47mpg when caining it up the A483 from south to north Wales.

Based on my experience it does seem that you car is using too much fuel.

I nearly always get more than 600 miles per tank, I had loan of several octavia's while i was waiting for my car to be delivered and the Superb was better than them all on fuel which seems a little odd to me.

I have a CR170 manual.

Best ever mpg is 55. Worst is 34.

Average on trip computer is currently 37 mpg.

That's mostly A and B road driving down in Cornwall. Not much motorway in these parts ;)

I would describe my driving style as 'enthusiastic', though. If I'm careful, then I can manage much better than this.

I can usually get about 450 miles out of a tank, and I always use BP Ultimate or Shell V-Power (as the company is paying for it).

I did find that my consumption improved noticeably as the engine was running in. It took at least 10,000 miles before it loosened up fully.

If you're worried about it, ask the dealer to take a look, but I'd wait until you've got at least 1500 miles on the clock.

Hi,

GreenLine 1.9 TDI PD

Average 50-52 Litres for 600-700 Miles most drive on motorway + little town roads

Motorway + little town road MDF display show every day journeys:

Fast drive 50-55 Miles / Gallon Revs 2000-3500 SO SPEEDING BASICLY

Normal drive 60-70Miles / Gallon Revs 1700-2500

Slow gently drive like old lady 65-75 Miles/ Gallon Revs 1500 – 2000 :giggle:

Motorways long journey quarter tank is about 200 Miles as always get these results when visiting family Speed 60-70 Miles / hr Most 70 Miles / hr

Never drive to full tank one stop motorway but, I think can reach 50 Litres = 700 + Miles Speed 70 Miles/hr rpm 1900

Generally drive town + motorway 50-52 litres = 550-700 Miles

Town only I think will be around 50 Litres = 450- 500 Miles

Just to add to the statistics:

Our Superb Elegance Twindoor 2010 1.9 TDI varies from 0.42 til 0.49 liters of diesel per 10 kilometer. We drive only on smaller roads where max speed is 80 km/hour, average speed will be about 60-70 km/h, a lot of bending roads and with some differences in meters above sealevel to overcome, two til four passengers, two adults two kids, we live in Norway. I would call our driving style "normal". Everytime I check the maxidot display and see these averages I get a smile on my face and mumble:"f#ck Toyota prius".

I do the same job in both .... carying tools and equipment etc?

I hope the new Superb 170 DSG is better.... better power anyway
