Fabia MK2 Strut Brace

Mk II REAR suspension is the same as the Mk I

Mk II FRONT suspension on early models is the same as the Mk I, but later Mk II's (approx 2008 MY on) have a different front suspension design with all-steel front subframe. The alloy 'Console' assy used on the Mk I is no longer employed.

my car was registered in 2008, how would one tell which front suspension design?

Well, you can PM me the VIN number and I'll tell you. Alternatively look under the front of the car. Does the back of the wishbone have a horizontal pin which goes into a bush in a alloy housing? If so its the old design (like Mk I). The wishbone on the new design incorporates a rear bush with a vertical pin trough it and the subframe is entirely of steel (no alloy 'console').

thanks, any pics of both versions so i know what i'm looking for. If if's the older version I might consider upgrading the bushes (or whatever it was) that another member said made a difference.

No, I don't have any pics. But if you look at the 'how to' thread on changing the console bushes on a Mk I then you'll know yours has the older type front suspension if it looks the same!

Had forgotten that they changed the front console design on later MKII's. Fabia55 Will post a pic with the old console up tomorrow all be it with the solid bushes now. Only down side is slightly more vibration especially under 1800 rpm but the whole car feels a lot better to drive which far outweighs the downside.

I take it a strut brace would produce more vibration at the front as well?

Hopefully the image will work, the cupra bush is the solid round black rubber piece at the back of the suspension

The previous bushes have voids in them at either side which allow them to move around, sorry can't find a picture . Newer Fabia II's don't have this at all so you would need to have a look underneath the car to see which front console you have.
