Cruise control failure

Featured Replies

SWMBO's told me today the cruise controls stopped working, had to really 30 days out of warranty

Not had chance to hook up VCDS yet, but just wondering which fault codes I should be displeased to see, and the damage to my pocket to fix if the stalk is at fault (before arguing the toss with Skoda CS & a local dealer).

I'm hoping clearing the fault code should do it. SWMBO hasnt used the CC for ages due to being round town, so are the stalks poor quality to fail so easily when not used?

Also check the operation of the clutch and brake switches in group 006 in the ECU measuring blocks (yours is a TDI isn't it?..)

Have you tried it? Mine 'packed up' the other day for no reason. Once car was switched off and left for a couple of hours , CC was up and runnning again next time I switched on, and has been OK ever siince.

Nah 2.0FSI

I have some mag head cleaner somewhere, which is basically the same stuff as contact cleaner so will give it a whirl tomorrow.

Can you buy that switch separately if cleaning it fails?

Betcha it just needs the contacts cleaning?? There's a piccie guide somewhere!

Edit:

Found it >> clicky <<

Finally got round to sorting this at the weekend, and yes cleaning the PCB contacts worked a treat.

SWMBO's happy again.... for now.

Who needs vagcom or master techs when you've got me around...

But I'm not plugging you into the car!

Having never used contact cleaner before I just thought I would ask if anyone knew if you can spray contact cleaner into the stalk without totally removing the switch as a first attempt?I am guessing not but thought it worth an ask.

When the method is simple enough for a cetified mechanical klutz such as myself to get right I would dismantle the switch properly first. I sprayed the contact cleaner on a cotton bud first so that it would not go everywhere.

6 weeks later CC still working AOK.

cheers for the advice, yes thought should do it properly so did and it all seems to be working spot on. Cotton buds picked up quite alot of dirt, dont know what has been going on in that indicator stalk but it all seems to be working. Thanks for pointing out it was worth doing properly!! Hope yours keeps working.
