Saab 9-3 anything to look out for?

Featured Replies

The other half needs a new car, been offered a 2006 Saab9-3, 1.9tdi vector sport saloon. 81,000 miles, fsaabsh £5,800. Seems cheap based on book price, anyone know anything to look out for in particular?

if its the 150bhp, the engines have some issues. Ask some of the vectra club boys, essentialy the saab's a vectra in a fancy suit. Not sure if its got a fiat engine in it. My Vec 120 sri had a fiat engine and i hated it with a passion

Nice outside but in my humble and generally useless opinion......a bit boring inside........................

I had a couple of Saab 9-3 as my last company cars. The diesel engines are the FIAT ones and I think they're ok. The 120 is a 8v and the 150 is a 16v, certainly never had any issues with mine, but again, I only had them for a couple of years and about 60K...

Vector comes with a few more toys and a half decent stereo, the sport means 17" wheels and firmer slightly lowered suspension.

The interior is cheap (in my opinion) but the 2006 model should be better put together (my first was a 2005, my second a 2007 and I felt the earlier model was screwed together better) and if you find a more comfortable seat I'd like to know what car it's in. I could spend hours in the Saab and get out at the other end without a hint of back pain...

Make sure the work has been done on the rear suspension (although the recall may not apply to a 2006 model) and judging by the number of people who've had a new alternator on their 9-3s and Vectras at our place (including me) don't be surprised if you need a new one soon.

Can't really say much more than that I'm afraid, for my choice of car at out place it was a Saab 9-3 saloon or a Saab 9-3 estate or take the car allowance so I didn't look into reliability etc and being company cars, whenever work needed doing I just took it to a dealer and said "it's a fleet car"... Having said that, apart from scheduled servicing, tyres, brakes and a couple of windscreens I never had to get either one looked at apart from the alternator going at about 60K on the later one

Just sold my 2004 9-3 2.Ot.

Really enjoyed the car, not a drivers car by any means, but reliable, smooth and very comfortable over distance.

If you want something sporty and rewarding to drive, then look elsewhere.

All things considered, a much nicer place to be than my previous Octavia vRS.

This might give you an idea of the depreciation of Saabs! Taken from the Vauxhall site which gives the trade-in values courtesy of Glass's.

Agree about the Saab's seats being brilliant but miss the cave of a boot in my old Superb 2.8v6!

I must say thanks for everyone's comments, but the whole idea has been kyboshed. The mrs took one look at it and said "it's not cool. It's a grandad's car and I'm not driving it". Same as she said about the Superb, Roomster, Octavia, MkII Fabia, Vectra, Corsa and C4. Might be easier to trade her in and buy what the hell I like :giggle: .

Sounds to me like she wants an Evo or a Scooby emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Try her out on my red boy racer - I'll consider any reasonable offer over £18k ( including zimmer in the boot)
