Whats best for lemon yellow

Featured Replies

Im a very competant detailer, but wonder if anyone has had any joy gaining a high depth gloss from their lemon yellow paint? The cars a 2004 model.

When the better weather comes ill give it once over with menzerna final finish, swissvax cleaner fluid, and swissvax saphir.

My question is, does anyone use a glaze to get the best out of the paint?

Im stuck with this car as its the first yellow (and probably last lol) car ive had

Thanks

Dan

As always 95% of the finish is in the prep..i.e machine polishing stage in your case.

A glaze is a complete waste of time on modern clear coated paint IMO.

If you think about the logic - taking Megs #7 as an example - apply via applicator pad over a panel then remove whilst still wet.

On modern clear coated paint the oils in the glaze have nowhere to go because it doesn't get absorbed by the clearcoat so you apply the product then remove, leaving the exact same finish before you started & sometimes even greasy/oily looking areas where the oils in the glaze are sat on the clearcoat, this IMO being a negative/backward step.

It's applicable for the older single stage paints where some of the oils in the glaze actually get absorbed by the paint, giving you a wetter look (in theory ;) )

Chris is spot on here and I completely agree, got loads of Glazes in the garage but in all honestly they are more hassle than they are worth and add little to modern paintwork finishes...................

If it were me I would look to use some Z6 and Z8 to help add depth to the paintwork, these really help and this worked well on a recent car both Chris and I detailed which was also yellow................tough colour to work on to be honest, almost like a silver............. :S

I'd try something like Clearkote YCW, I find this makes quite an improvement and also helps to fill swirles and cobwebbing that's been missed. IMHO I find a glze a must, even AG SRP is worth trying.
